Montreal finally gets a winger who is a good influence and performs well, and they trade him away for a pick.

Pretty dumb move, especially if he doesn't re-sign there.

Hagelin, Dowd, Leipsec and now Kovalchuk. Looks like the Caps have taken the lead in ex Kings over TO and Van

Kovalchuk was no more productive with Mtl than with the Kings. Points per minute played was actually a fraction less.

Martinez had a shaky first ten minutes but has been great since then.

Vegas retroactively adds another 2nd.

Montreal did a good job of maximizing Kovalchuk's value. They shouldn't worry about the possibility of not having a 36-year old Kovalchuk on their roster when they can get a 3rd round pick for him.

Honestly, you have to tip your hat to Kovy. He came to LA hoping there was still a little bit of gas left in the tank and his wife wanted to go there. Things didn't work out and he wants one last shot at Lord Stanley's Cup. So he agrees to terminate his deal, convinces a middling team to sign him for minimum and get a free asset, plays his way to being a decent trade chip, and then gets dealt to a contender to make his run. Could be a good story for him if the Caps can put together a good run. Wish him the best, he scored 19 goals in 81 games for the Kings. Sure, he was a minus 36 doing it, but that was expected from him...

Hey, Caps fan here. In the Kovalchuk trade thread Ive read that Kovalchuk and Hagelin played few games on the same line. I think there is a good chance they are going to play on the same line together for Caps, so as far as you can remember, how did they look together (chemistry etc..)?

Yet MTL got a 3rd round pick for him....Blake got dick.

Kovalchuk's cap hit was $700k AND Montreal had to retain.

I honestly don't remember them playing much. By the time Pearson was traded for Hagelin, Kovalchuk was already seeing less time. Willie Desjardins was screwing stuff up.

Don't know how good chemistry they would have, either.
