For now, you can continue to discuss the games being canceled today (possibly tomorrow as well) and why but only in the narrow scope of what is being protested with opinions on the protests' effectiveness and viability.

DO NOT make this a larger referendum on specific politicians/parties, others' political leanings, unrelated political topics or get into personal attacks, there will be zero tolerance for those kind of tangents. If you can't avoid such tangents, do everyone a favor and take a vacation from posting this weekend before one's given to you.

Yeah they got pushed back. I suspect they'll probably just bump the entire schedule back two or three days days if every team lays out for one game but who knows.

Well whatever they decide, they'll decide it.

BTW, I never asked but what is your opinion on what happened with the Yotes and their penalty?

I mean I don't actually know the fine print details of what they did - illegal testing of prospects? - and this is a bit of an unprecedented violation so I don't really want to opine if it's too much or not, just seems to me a bit inconsistent to punish the organization so harshly yet not punish the guy ostensibly responsible at all (Chayka).

Do you think this is a case of the NHL making stuff up as they go along?

I'll just say this - I find it absolutely hilarious that whenever the NBA makes an important decision about something, the NHL follows and does the exact same within 24 hours. Which means either:

A.) The NHL wanted to do something earlier but didn't have the balls to actually follow through
B.) The NHL didn't want to do something, but felt compelled to so they wouldn't look bad

Both are embarrassing for different reasons. It's like Bettman has to wait and see what his big brother does before he gets permission to do anything.

I mean they kinda had to since nobody'd ever been dinged for anything like this before

I'm all for slagging the NHL for their delay on responding to this yesterday but dinging them on the COVID thing is unfair since it was the NBA that had the first reported positive case and they shut down within minutes of it becoming public knowledge. If the NHL had the first positive case it may well have been they shut down first, we'll never know.

FWIW the NHL also came back before the NBA did so they weren't waiting around on them for that.

I guess they have something planned to announce on tv since it's an hour to go and quiet on the nhl and flyers and islanders social media accounts.

My apologizes if this was already posted. Tarasenko is going to start next season on LTIR. Blues cap situation will be changing so maybe this will curb some of the St. Louis trade proposals.

"The St. Louis Blues expect to start next season without star winger Vladimir Tarasenko, who needs additional surgery on his injured left shoulder.
"He's going to go back in and have more surgery next week. It's serious in the sense that he won't be with us, and [will] be re-evaluated after five months after the day of the surgery," Blues GM Doug Armstrong said in a conference call on Wednesday."

Tarasenko expected to miss start of next season

Maybe the Yotes will fire Chayka and withhold the remainder of his compensation because he violated a clause in his contract.

Well, I’m done watching Hockey until the draft . My team is not playing anyway. Why should I care.

Not me. I'll just wait until Hockey resumes next week.

In the meantime, I'll just read some more of @StevenToddIves 's in-depth reviews of potential diamonds-in-the-rough prospects that the Devils could get in the upcoming draft.

From what I read, this originated with the players. Trotz mentioned that. They saw the NBA news and began to kick it around. Or maybe they were talking at the same time as the coaches, front offices and league.

For the most lily white sport there is, and in large part a bunch of Canadian jocks, often from the rural west, I was totally surprised. And given who the audience is - again probably whiter than for any other national sport (though baseball tends that direction) I think it’s effective and meaningful. Obviously it’s going to be controversial at a moment when everything is being politicized. But it does make people think about what conditions are in society who would not otherwise be focusing on it and make a statement about where the players stand.

In retrospect, I'm glad they did it even though they once again took a cue from the NBA instead of being the ones who took that first step.

Eh don't really think that'll change much. The Blues need to worry about more than next season as far as cap management and signing Pietrangelo goes. I guess it could mean they sign him and sorta kick the can down the road until next offseason (or whenever Tarasenko is ready to come back), but it's still a big issue for them.

In regards to the protest, I support the NHL following the NBA.

I feel that the league that is primarily comprised of black athletes should take the lead of issues of race. Quickly following their lead is the best course of action to support the NBA. Fumbling with the decision looks bad.

Im actually impressed MLB walked off, too. Baseball has shown to be full of incompetent leadership since Manfred took over.

I think these decisions are easier considering that there are no fans in attendance. If i spent 4 hours coming and going to Shea stadium to find out that the game was canceled for nonweather/health reasons, I would be pissed.

Part of that is the hope for less wacky trade proposals on the board:laugh:

Steen and Bozak will be off the books in 21-22 which will help them a lot. Also Tarasenko clearly has a long term issue with his shoulder.

What happens if NBA players decide to boycott next season? Does it make the NHL less understanding if they dont contemplate it too?

Just a curious question
