Why would the Coyotes firesale anything? They don't have any picks. Their best chance is to do the opposite - load up until you collapse and at that point your picks come back.

Maybe firesale isn't the right word. They're at the cap with little flexibility to add to a team that finished 11th worst in the league last year. The likes of Stephan, Kessel, Goligoski, Hammer, Demers, are all free agents after a year or two. Better to get some assets out of them this coming offseason/TDL then lose them for nothing in a year. Might as well get some 2nd/3rd round picks or some B level prospects who could help down the line.

None of these guys are assets except maybe, maybe Hjalmarsson. I don't think you could trade any of the other 4 for nothing.

The darkest part of the penalty is the NHL has to wait for the Coyotes to lose to make sure we couldn’t get their 1st before they snatched it away from them.

There was also that report that a decision would have been made on august 10th if they were to be in the lottery. Would the NHL have stripped a first overall pick from them or taken them out of the lottery? That would have been pretty harsh

I guess they would have taken the pick before the second lottery, it would have been more brutal because of all the attention. It would have messed with the overall odds though... who knows, other than everything sucks for them and for some unknown reason the Devils owner reportedly wanted to hire the Boy Wonder GM who was grossly negligent.

I did hear that there was a 250/k fine per infraction that would have been enormous, they worked out at least 20 players so that’s 5m+, if NHL actually hit them with it so this is actually somewhat merciful. So I guess the Coyotes are lucky there, maybe Bettman felt a huge fine was too much to hit a team with a brand new owner who’s bleeding money with.

Hopefully someone can answer this.

Confused why a lot of Arizona fans seem to think NJ is going to get punished by the league because of their supposed involvement with Chayka? Didn't the pundits rule NJ did nothing wrong?

They think we sabotaged the situation and that the league is going to come down on NJ on this by losing a draft pick or something...why would we? They blatantly cheated and were punished for the testing mess.

One poster said they think their GM isn't saying anything until Bettman rules on the Devils/Chayka situation?

So because a few players on one NBA team came up with the idea to boycott a game - the NHL had to cancel theirs for today

Crazy amount of influence a few people can have today with the media. While I understand it from the NHLs perspective, this could be a bad sign of the future when not everyone agrees on a reason to boycott a game.

I sure hope this doesnt become a trend

I’m don’t even understand how the Devils could be in trouble, anti-tampering rules involves players only as far as I know. According to the scuttlebutt Chayka asked permission to interview for a job and got it. What’s the imaginary charge, tampering with management?

Do you see how much attention what the NBA did yesterday got? They are using their platform and using it peacefully.

Not sure how anyone could be perturbed by that. There are certain things in the world that are way more important than sports.
I dont have any problem with it - I just get nervous thinking about if boycotting games will become a thing players, especially in the NBA since they run the league, do more often than they should.

If there are 3-4 more shootings before the playoffs end will they do it 3-4 more times? Why not take it a step further and stay home safe from covid next year and also protest the season? Curious what you think

The reasons it is being done for I fully support - this isnt political for me it is about the idea of boycotting games.

If there are 3-4 more shootings before the playoffs start again than there are more important things than resuming play. I know that was just a hypothetical but still.

I'm curious to know if this will now become the norm going forward? If so, it would have major ramifications for all Sports leagues.

And before someone tells me for the millionth time (with snark, naturally) that there's things more important than Sports, let me just say the following :

1.) I KNOW THAT. Get a grip.

2.) You have to also look beyond what happens next. I pray there won't be any more of these incidents but if there were, will there be more postponements? Or a Cancellation of the Season? Playoffs?

(now can anyone respond *without* snark to this? )
