hfboards Winnipeg Jets' posters: "Boy, the San Jose Sharks must be cruising for locker room problems by signing Evander Kane to that long-term high-money contract!"
Doug Wilson: "Hold my beer, will ya?"

It's a good deal for the Sharks if the character issues don't bite them. Boedker isn't terrible, and Bergman has some potential as a RD. Also, Sens save almost $2.7M in actual salary, which is key for that franchise.

Are the Sens going for the Vegas strategy of 'no one will expect us to do anything, so we'll actually do well'?

They are going for the number 1 overall pick in 2019....for Colorado
More and more I wonder if the Sens plan to trade Karlsson and pick up extra picks this year and next, and then trade the #4 this year.

Here's another thought... What if the Sens trade down from #4 to about #6 or #7 this season for an extra pick or prospect, and then ask the Avs if they would trade their 2019 pick back to the Sens for the #6 or #7 overall? It would give the Avs a choice between taking a sure #6 or #7, over the chance of a top-3 next year. However, weird things happen in the NHL and the Sens could out-perform expectations next season and the pick could be lower than a #6-7. Also, Avs might value a pick now, over a pick in a year from now.

sens are going for a master plan.
gut the franchise. go for the rebuild.
attendance will fall.
they will want a new arena. won't get it.
then they'll look at moving the team to Quebec City.

it's pretty gross and transparent.

Seems like the Sharks have it like this: goal scoring > character

Well, sharks are opportunists. Maybe it's time for the NHL to put their heads together and launch their version of the Chivalric Rule, stipulating that goals may only be scored by the pure of heart.

I feel for Sens fans. Every day another body blow. They're gonna be punch-drunk by Canada Day.

Given that Ottawa got very little in return, in hindsight would anyone here have taken Hoffman for Armia straight up?

2017/18 5v5 points/60...

Hoffman 1.44
Boedker 1.86

The Jets had 10 regular forwards with higher scoring rates 5v5 than Hoffman, including Copp and Armia. Tanev wasn't far behind Hoffman at 1.41.

None of these figures are "girlfriend-adjusted".

Not a chance.

Armia had better metrics 5v5 in...

He's much less expensive.

Hoffman was basically a PP specialist, and Armia is more of a PK specialist. The Jets have plenty of fire-power for their PP.

Jesus, did Ottawa ever get spun. We're talking 360s here.

A guy producing at a rate of a first-line forward got traded twice in an hour, and somehow one team got a set of picks for said guy, while the other currently has a middle six winger making too much money to show for him. Not only that, but the latter now have to play against him five times a year.

Full marks to Wilson. They just restocked their pick cupboards and got rid of dead cap for being inventive.

I think the difference between Hoffman and Boedker is being a little exaggerated and Bergman is still a legit prospect, though not a great one. All SJS got was a 4th, a 5th and a next year 2nd. Nothing to get too excited about there.

They also freed up a ton of cap space, which is big. At the end of the day, SJS got a better deal than OTT did just hours later.

Ottawa also gained cap and even more actual salary. Considering that they had to move Hoffman, I think they did OK. SJS shifted Boedker's contract for some late picks. Meh.
