Though I think that would be a great idea.. I think it is a pipe dream. Panarin signed with JD in NY even though the CBJ offered him the higher salary - JD helped lure him away (even though he was probably going to NY or Florida regardless). Turns out Zito has chops of his own eh?

JD comes home and brings a warm loaf with him. Panarin went to NY to live in Connecticut, we'll package something up and get those goofs back in town!

In seriousness, I was shocked to see the team fired those two. Sure want to know more. Tom Wilson flexing in the box takes on a deeper symbolism now.

One interesting thing I read in Porty's piece today (yesterday? who knows - and this probably could go in a front office thread) is that the Jackets never replaced JD or Zito. They just...packaged up their responsibilities and duties and put them elsewhere in the front office.

Don't really care about JD coming back. He's 68. This team has moved on. He was the right person for the job at the time, in 2012. Didn't we also have Craig Patrick as some sort of advisor at the time? Anyway, more hockey guys and less Priest involved and this franchise will do better, imo. But I'm not sure the timing is there for a JD reunion. Torts is on his way out. Jarmo wants to reload, not rebuild, and JD's whole thing is kind of rebuilding.

Another random, periodic check-in. This time, it's just past the halfway point of the season for most teams.

Josh Anderson - 11-5-16, -1 in 28 games with Montreal, shooting 15.1%.
Pierre-Luc Dubois - 5-7-12, +1 in 16 games for Winnipeg, 37.1% on FOs.
Ryan Murray - 0-4-4, +3 in 21 games, averaging 18:24 TOI, believe he got healthy scratched one game.
Markus Nutivaara - 0-3-3, -2 in 9 games for Florida, I guess he's their 7D being healthy scratched right now.
Devin Shore - 2-4-6, -2 in 20 games for Edmonton; off the taxi squad.
Alex Wennberg - 6-8-14, +1 in 31 games for Florida, shooting is down to 14.6% (still a career-high if it holds). He's over 50% in the dot for the first time in his career and is averaging a higher TOI than in his final two seasons in Columbus.
Artem Anisimov - 2-2-4, -3 in 14 games with Ottawa; I think he has bounced on and off the taxi squad.
Sergei Bobrovsky - 12-4-2 in 18 starts for Columbus South; .903 sv %, 2.97 GAA; since leaving Columbus Bob has started 66 games and posted a .900 sv% and 3.16 GAA.
Derick Brassard - 7-6-12, -2 in 31 games with Arizona.
Matt Calvert - 0-2-2, -2 in 16 games for Colorado; I guess they're letting him play despite his concussion issues?
Jeff Carter - 6-9-15, -8 in 30 games for L.A.
Ian Cole - 1-2-3, +19 in 25 games since getting traded to Minnesota (played two games with Colorado prior to the trade)
Kevin Connauton - 0-1-1, +5 in 5 games for the Panthers; on the taxi squad and hasn't played a game since March 7th.
Matt Duchene - 3-5-8, -11 in 23 games with Nashville (he's broken through -100 for his career); in 89 career regular season games with the Preds he's posted 16-34-50 and is a -15. Been on IR since March 4th.
Anthony Duclair - 3-11-14, +7 in 24 games with Florida
Ryan Dzingel - 2-2-4, -2 in 11 games for Carolina, traded to Ottawa where he is 4-0-4, -1 in 8 games.
Ryan Johansen - 3-8-11, -3 in 24 games with Nashville.
Jack Johnson - 1-0-1, -5 in 13 games with the Rangers, averaging career-low 16:58 TOI. Had hernia surgery, out 3-4 months. Season and career over?
William Lars Karlsson - 7-13-20, +10 in 29 games for Vegas, 54.5% in the dot.
Jonathan Marchessault - 8-13-21, +7 in 29 games for Vegas.
Curtis McElhinney - 3-3-1 in 7 starts for Tampa Bay, posting .880 sv % and 3.16 GAA; still getting paid at age 37.
Frank Sonny Milano - no stats (8 SOG) in 6 games with Anaheim, last update I saw was he was being evaluated for post-concussion symptoms.
Artemi Panarin - 8-17-25, +5 in 19 games for the Rangers, back from his leave of absence.
Brandon Saad - 10-9-19, -1 for Colorado in 28 games, shooting a ridiculous 21.7% right now; averaging lowest TOI since his rookie season.
Anton Stralman - 2-6-8, -5 in 27 games for Florida.
Jakub Voracek - 5-17-22, -5 in 26 games with Philadelphia, lowest ATOI since his first year with the Flyers.

Lost track of these and I guess it's the end of the season(ish), so...here you go. I'll circle back and update final stats as the remaining games finish up.

Riley Nash - no games played for Toronto.
Nick Foligno - 0-4-4, +5 in 5 games for Toronto, has been out for a week with an injury.
David Savard - 0-0-0, -8 in 14 games for Tampa Bay.

Josh Anderson - 17-7-24, -8 in 52 games with Montreal, shot 13.6%.
Pierre-Luc Dubois - 8-12-20, -5 in 40 games for Winnipeg, career-low 41.1% on faceoffs, career-low ATOI.
Ryan Murray - 0-14-14, +4 in 48 games, averaging 18:37 TOI, believe he got healthy scratched one game; 10 points in his final 23 games.
Markus Nutivaara - 0-10-10, +1 in 30 games for Florida.
Devin Shore - 5-4-9, -4 in 37 games for Edmonton.
Alex Wennberg - 17-12-29, +6 in 56 games for Florida, shot a career-high 20.7% for a career-high in goals.
Artem Anisimov - 2-6-8, +1 in 18 games with Ottawa.
Sergei Bobrovsky - 19-8-2 in 30 starts for Columbus South; .906 sv %, 2.91 GAA; since leaving Columbus Bob has started 78 games and posted a .902 sv% and 3.10 GAA.
Derick Brassard - 8-12-20, -10 in 53 games with Arizona.
Matt Calvert - 0-3-3, -2 in 18 games for Colorado; didn't play since March 23rd. Hockey career may be done with all of his concussions/symptoms.
Jeff Carter - 8-11-19, -6 in 40 games for L.A.; 9-2-11, +9 in 14 games with Pittsburgh.
Ian Cole - 1-6-7, +21 in 50 games since getting traded to Minnesota (played two games with Colorado prior to the trade).
Kevin Connauton - 0-1-1, +4 in 7 games for the Panthers.
Matt Duchene - 6-7-13, -12 in 34 games with Nashville (he's broken through -100 for his career, now at -102); in 100 career regular season games with the Preds he's posted 19-36-55 and is a -16. Somehow, he's owed $8m per year for 5 more years.
Anthony Duclair - 10-22-32, +27 in 43 games with Florida
Ryan Dzingel - 2-2-4, -2 in 11 games for Carolina, traded to Ottawa where he is 6-3-9, -3 in 29 games.
Ryan Johansen - 7-15-22, +0 in 48 games with Nashville.
Jack Johnson - 1-0-1, -5 in 13 games with the Rangers, averaging career-low 16:58 TOI. Had hernia surgery, career over?
William Lars Karlsson - 14-24-38, +18 in 55 games for Vegas, 53.7% in the dot.
Jonathan Marchessault - 17-25-42, +17 in 54 games for Vegas.
Curtis McElhinney - 4-6-2 in 12 starts for Tampa Bay, posted .875 sv % and 3.09 GAA; career over?

Artemi Panarin - 17-41-58, +14 in 42 games for the Rangers. Took a leave of absence this season, was last seen getting rag dolled by Tom Wilson.
Brandon Saad - 15-9-24, +1 for Colorado in 44 games, shot a career-high 22.1% right now; averaged lowest TOI since his rookie season.
Anton Stralman - 3-6-9, -1 in 38 games for Florida.

Josh Anderson and Maxi Domi have the same # of points this season.

To me it has little to with Domi tbh. Might very well play out that this trade is a win for Jarmo. I just think the $500,000 straw that broke Jarmo's back would have been money well spent for JA. That also could be false as the years pass.

Certainly this year I'm leaning towards the view that we should have given Josh his number. It would have given us continuity, a very popular teammate (and Seth's BF on the team), a great two-way presence, a physical advantage (Metro is going to get bloody), and would have signaled loyalty where it was needed most.

But then I also don't judge Jarmo harshly on his decision last year. He drew the line at $30m for a guy coming off a 1 goal season. How crazy is that.

I just Jarmo pretty harshly for the 2017 negotiation though, he ended up reaping what he sowed.

Random Thoughts

Since the trade:

Sonny Milano 5 points -1 signed a $3.4 million dollar contract

Devin Shore 11 points -6 briefly had his number rhyme with his name

WTF happened to Dzingel?

Anthony Duclair is a decent hockey player. Wonder what he thinks about Torts now. Is he worth more than the 3 year $12.75 million contract he turned down in Detroit? He has to be happier winning in Florida than losing in Ottawa. Wonder what Florida will offer him.

This season has already sucked. I now predict that Jeff Carter and the Penguins will win the Cup. Because that would be the cherry on top of a miserable season.

Only 1 guy on this list with more points than Bjork. And that is Panarin. Lots of guys on this list make more money than Bjork.

Duclair said that the rumor about the offer he turned down was false, that he never got any multi-year offers like that.

But in any case I do think he is worth that much, more than that even. He creates so much space for his teammates and he's a decently responsible player these days.

better than Winnipeg winning.

Other than I enjoy Canadian teams not winning the Cup, I could handle the Jets winning. They made a big trade. Teams that take chances deserve to win sometimes. Teams that suck at the most convenient time and draft generational platers and then add douchebags don’t deserve to win all the Cups. Jeff Carter’s name on the Cup again?!?! Screw that.

Gavrikov is going to play for Russia during the upcoming world championship. This is bad news and how come NHL contracts don't ban such stupid irresponsible things? What if he gets injured? He should be resting and evaluating his season.

We usually had several players joining the worlds each season that we missed the playoffs. I don't see any problem with it, we're so far from next season.

I've never been a Panthers fan but this team that Zito and Quenneville have put together is such a joy to watch. Fast, fun hockey, and just about every player on the team is fighting for redemption in some way. So many castoffs that are playing beautifully.
