Ok, here are my ideas for tie breakers in playoff voting....
Ties in voting actually happen a lot in these drafts, for a playoff series. especially with such small numbers. And lots of times teams are so evenly matched.
I wanted to have two tie breakers in place for the playoffs.
One idea I got was from the initial Baseball ATD charter, that stated that besides participants, other people following along with the draft, but not in, could also vote. That was never enacted. (even though we did have ties.) But I thought it was a decent idea with provisions. I think if we did that, we would have to get some posters that everyone agreed upon and felt had great hockey knowledge. From the Pens board, I thought of ColePens and/or Soggy Biscuits. Both guys that I think would be good judges. We could get the other from the Bruins board, if our B's participants have a guy in mind. Soggy Biscuits already agreed to do it. If we need him.
Also someone that wouldn't be following along with the draft. That way, if we had a tie, we could send all pertinent info to them, rosters and such, without a person's name attached to it. So there would be absolutely no bias whatsoever. Figured a 2 man panel. That way if we get a split of votes, they cancel each other out. And it goes to the 2nd tie breaker. If they both agree, then it's a 2-0 in favor of the winner.
The 2nd tie breaker, is one that we have been using for the playoffs in baseball. And that is, when we vote for a playoff series, we state how many games the best of 7 will go. For example, TEAM A over TEAM B, 4-3. Then we use the series games as a tie breaker.
Which reminds me, we actually need a regular season tie breaker. Those ties are more rare, since they involve 12 teams as opposed to two.
