What happens to a player like Denis Potvin, whose career is basically split before and after 79? He won all his Norris before 79 (or in 79), but he was the general of a dynasty in the 80s.

I hope as you do more of these draft you will consider either going further back in time, and/or maybe register to the real ATD to learn about the old eras which are even more entertaining (anyone is free to join every year).I might join your draft next year.

Anyone whose career overlaps is invalid, for the purposes of this particular draft.

Essentially if you played in the NHL in (or prior to) 1978, you're inadmissible. Same rule applies to Mike Bossy.

Friday, that's a bit too early. We have a few people in the league that couldn't start this week, which is part of the reason for the Feb. 11 start. So knowing what they have going on, I don't want to jump ahead too much.

Especially with BMC and TFG2, just joining. They are still absorbing all the info.

We will stick with Monday at 8am official clocking, and Sunday at 8am EST, for unclocked start. (if you wanna make your pick late Saturday night, that would be fine. We can all wake up Sunday morning and see who is the first player chosen.

We discussed the rules in-house already, but I have posted them in the PICKS only thread, so they are there for easy viewing.

A bit later, I wanted to discuss a couple of tie breaking procedures I had for the voting. As with such a small group, 12 people, and excluding the 2 participants in a series, there are only 10 voters, (if HOPEFULLY EVERYONE VOTES.) So ties do happen a lot. I will post a couple ideas I had later and see what you guys think.

I will also REPOST some of the things we discussed in-house, but feel are pertinent and a good reminder.........

Don't be scared off by the short 4 hour window in the last 4 rounds. By the time we get that deep, the perspective of the players left available, are going to vary wildly from GM to GM. So if you get skipped in those last rounds, because you were busy, it's really not a big deal. Especially since those will most likely be our 3rd goalie, our 13th fwd, our 7th d, and whatever.

Also when we get the far along, you can always send a note to another GM, along with a couple names, or one name, of who want. And they can make the pick by proxy for you.

Also, the clock with start on Monday morning, Feb. 11, at 8am. But I will open the draft up, 24 hours prior to that, without a clock. So people can start picking, if they chose, but are under no obligation to do so. So if on Sunday, Winger feels like making a pick, he can. If not, it will be Monday. if he does, he will notify next up. Same, they can pick if ready. But no clock involved. Once Monday morning hits, the clock with activate with whomever is up.

Winger has the good ahead to post his pick late Saturday night. So we can all wake up Sunday morning and so who gets the honor of being chosen 1st overall pick!

How do we figure out which team is better?

You use whatever criteria you want when voting. It's going to be different for everyone. There really is no standard, or right or wrong answer. It's all going to be consensus opinion. And remember that doesn't mean it's right.

At the end, you can do a writeup explaining your team and it's vision. And pimping it's style. You certainly don't have to. But I honestly like when people do that. I think it CAN HELP.

On your roster page, the bare minimum requirement will be to list your 4 lines, your 3 D pairings and your starting and backup goalies. And your 4 man taxi squad. Those are mandatory. You don't have to list anything else. But I think it is helpful for others when reviewing your team to see who will being doing what on your team. If there is nothing else listed, it will be up to the voters discretion of who does what.

So, IF, you wanna go further, I think it would be a good idea to also your 1st unit PP. Your 4 man PK forward rotation.

You can go as far as you want. If you want state your late game face-off guy, go ahead. Whatever you want. Wanna go crazy?, haha, list lines projected ice time.

I know that when I go to review the teams, if I see a team that has guys have never Pk'ed in their life, I'm going to assume that that team will be giving up a lot of power play goals. And if no PP is listed, will probably just assume top line and top D pairing. Remember we are assuming a full 82 game schedule these guys will go through. Then the playoffs. Not a 2 week experience like the Olympics.

Those are just my opinions, of course. Everyone is gonna have their own view. And only the bolded is mandatory.

Some things to consider when you are thinking about building your team.......

Remember you can design your team any which way you want. But know your strategy going into it, that way you can prioritize your player list.

You want to just go best offensive stats you can find, and go basically an All star team? Go for that. There is no salary cap. Base your selections on having an 82 game regular season, and than after that playoffs.

You can go all finesse player if you want. You can get some Rough and rugged players. Players that can fill a role. Puck hound, agitator, enforcer, defensive specialist. Whatever you want. Remember this is your vision. And at the end, if you designed your team in a certain way, and it makes sense to you, chances are it will to others.

3 offensive superstars on one line? Yeah, sure. Will anyone of them play defense? Get the puck. Of course you can say, with these guys, they will always have the puck. Maybe, but remember they are going against other super star laden teams.

REMEMBER THIS IS NOT SIMPLY DRAFT THE BEST PLAYERS IN HISTORY DOWN THE LINE FROM 79 till NOW, IT'S BUILD THE BEST TEAM.. This is build the best team you think will win and have the best chance against what your opponents are building. And that can be anyway you want.

Any questions during the draft, let me know. If I am not online, check with Winger.

If updates on the clock are needed, myself or Winger will do so.

Lol this should be fun explaining over and over.
No kidding.

We come to the All Time Draft thread to start an All Time Draft thread and people are bitching it's not an All Time Draft in the right section.

Is this still a hockey forum?

In any case...I don't even know what to post anymore with so much crap in this thread by people that have nothing to do with the actual ATD.

Just double check that I have the correct spelling of your team names in the PICKS thread. Also that I have you in the correct order, in the first and second rounds of our snake draft. Cause I will just be copying and pasting the order established. So if I have that wrong, it will be messed up throughout the entirety.

As mentioned previously, look at the team above you and below you, those will be the two people you will be PM'ing during the draft to notify they are up next after you pick.

And @Shady Machine, you will be the GM that will be making two picks every time up.

Ok, here are my ideas for tie breakers in playoff voting....

giphy.gif

Ties in voting actually happen a lot in these drafts, for a playoff series. especially with such small numbers. And lots of times teams are so evenly matched.

I wanted to have two tie breakers in place for the playoffs.

One idea I got was from the initial Baseball ATD charter, that stated that besides participants, other people following along with the draft, but not in, could also vote. That was never enacted. (even though we did have ties.) But I thought it was a decent idea with provisions. I think if we did that, we would have to get some posters that everyone agreed upon and felt had great hockey knowledge. From the Pens board, I thought of ColePens and/or Soggy Biscuits. Both guys that I think would be good judges. We could get the other from the Bruins board, if our B's participants have a guy in mind. Soggy Biscuits already agreed to do it. If we need him.

Also someone that wouldn't be following along with the draft. That way, if we had a tie, we could send all pertinent info to them, rosters and such, without a person's name attached to it. So there would be absolutely no bias whatsoever. Figured a 2 man panel. That way if we get a split of votes, they cancel each other out. And it goes to the 2nd tie breaker. If they both agree, then it's a 2-0 in favor of the winner.

The 2nd tie breaker, is one that we have been using for the playoffs in baseball. And that is, when we vote for a playoff series, we state how many games the best of 7 will go. For example, TEAM A over TEAM B, 4-3. Then we use the series games as a tie breaker.

Which reminds me, we actually need a regular season tie breaker. Those ties are more rare, since they involve 12 teams as opposed to two.

When drafting is done, the voting for the regular season standings will be ONE WEEK. Of course will announce results sooner if everyone votes before that week is up.

And for each playoff round. 3 day window.
