I think he can be an NHLer. Not a great one but decent bottom pairing. Played 20 games for the Wings and looked okay. Wings just have way too many of the #5-7D and not enough AHL room.

Chayka's computer told him to do this deal. I remember worrying that Russo would be another Spurgeon for the Islanders when he didn't sign with us but it seems like all we lost was a conditional 7th rounder.

yeah but just wait till that condition is met and the 7th rounder is used to draft a prospect that is eventually traded for a conditional 6th rounder

we'll see who's laughing then oh yes we will

In 20 years you will have upgraded that 7th conditional pick to a lottery pick.

Damn, that's a name I haven't heard in a long time. Surprised he's still around. Just saw that he's actually put up some decent AHL numbers so hopefully he'll eventually lock down an NHL spot. I always root for the former Isles guys and Notre Dame alum.

Chayka looked smug as hell when the Coyotes dropped two spots in the lottery. He clearly knows something we all don't and this level of moneypuck has my head spinning. Robbie Russo for Conn Smythe 2021?

Say what you want about Chayka and his effectiveness so far, but the man doesn't rest.
Guy makes so many trades, and is constantly tweaking, no matter how small.

The results haven't poured in, and you could well argue its disruptive for the team/he's wasting time arranging grains of sand on a beach, but the guy GMs like I did in NHL 09, and I respect that

To put that into perspective, he has made more trades than any other team (let alone GM) in that time frame.
The next highest is Montreal at 33 (which itself is near 10 greater than the next team).
Boston has made 6 in that same time frame AND under went management change (which is typically paired with greater player turnover)

He's also made 3 waiver claims in that time span, third only to Colorado's 4 and Toronto's 5 claims.
He has terminated 2 contracts, and bought out 1
He has signed 15 NHL free agents, and 8 imports.

I truly think he feels that if he stops even for a second, it means he's not working hard enough!

Still is, Holland's just showing some charity to Chayke for the Hayton/Zadina f*** up.
Chayka says thanks, but he'll be OK. Also, says thanks for the Chychrun/Datsyuk contract for Cholowski/Hronok trade 2 years ago. :D

You're welcome. At the moment Hronek's looking like the best of the three. :thumbu:
That's like saying the Franz Nielsen UFA signing was a good use of the cap savings from the Datysuk contract....

Not sure what's hard to understand about Detroit trading down, dumping a $7.5M cap hit, and still winding up with the best of the three prospects.

Funny you say that. When he first got hired on I created this thread on our forum to track his activity, someone before me had done the same for when Maloney was our GM and I wanted to continue with Chayka because it is very interesting to see.

Needless to say I had no idea what I was getting myself into.

chych is in the NHL bruh

Great. Making the NHL includes multiple different factors, mainly size and the development process of the team.

Hronek can still be more skilled and have more potential and make the league later because he needs to make up some of the 40 pound difference between him and Chychrun...

This is incredible

How, roughly, does it compare to Maloney's tenure?

so with the help of Google Sheets I was able to get a rough count. In 9 years Maloney made 236 managerial decisions including hires, trades, draft choices etc. (according to what we tracked on our forum.)

In just a little over 2 years (May 5th 2016 hire date) Chayka has made 119 managerial decisions. Unreal. He's like a shark that will die if it stops swimming.

Interesting pickup here for the Coyotes, Russo's 25 so maybe this opportunity with the Coyotes could turn him into a somewhat regular NHLer.
