This seems high, no? I'm not super familiar, I know he killed it last year but that's not the norm, right?
He played like a $4.5m goalie last season. Hopefully he can keep that performance up.
But they also have Antii Raanta on a similar deal, who I think is better than Kuemper but can't stay healthy4.5M is about minimum wage for an NHL starter. 2 years is a very short term though.
it's essentially what Jake Allen is being paid to be a back-up.that’s, uh, a lot.
That's the problem, that's starter money. And more than what you're paying your starter.4.5M is about minimum wage for an NHL starter. 2 years is a very short term though.
No, that's what they paid Allen to be their starter. Allen has been demoted to being a backup.it's essentially what Jake Allen is being paid to be a back-up.
Hill looks to be the odd-man out, and he's not happy. They’re probably planning on trading one of their two goalies (either Raanta or Kuemper) and rolling with Hill as their backup maybe as soon as this coming deadline.
I dont get why Arizona is extending him now, hes been fairly inconsistent over the years, they have Raanta signed till the end of 20-21 and they just claimed comrie
He finished 6th in Vezina voting last year. How is he not a starter? That's the problem, that's starter money. And more than what you're paying your starter.
I'm not sure I buy Kuemper as a starter.
5M+ of that is Hossa, so they have space to fill out the roster. Its getting pretty hard to figure out what the plan in Arizona is. They have over 80 million committed to 18 players for next season for a team that's pretty meh.

I think it's because Raanta's health concerns.
If Kuemper ends up riding as the #1 this season and has big time success, similar to 2nd half last year, he starts to gather more interest and through that ask for more money/term.
Coyotes taking a chance here, that if Kuemper pays off, they'll at least get him on couple of his best years at reasonable AAV. Also im sure they're sick of these injury issues, so at least they have someone who can play (knock on wood).
I guess the main thing is since kuemper started in the league hes never had 2 seasons in a row that were good. If i were the coyotes i wouldve waited till next offseason to sign
