Right, so the rebuild isn’t over. The thread is about the build being over.

"starting goalie Biron" are three words that should never be said in that order

He was a legit starter for about three or four seasons.

To the point of the thread, Rangers aren't done. Not close. The short of it is that depth is starting to build, but we're missing that top-end talent.

If you want it broken down...

Goaltending is getting there depending upon how Shesterkin does. Georgiev has looked good. Keep an eye on Huska.

Defense has a lot of left depth and a little right depth with especially promising prospects in Lundkvist and Miller. There are also guys like Reunanen, Keane, etc. -- plenty of later picks that could fill out depth down the line or take a surprise step. I'm still familiarizing myself with this year's picks, but the Robertson pick this year looks like a good one. Very good skater--one of our reporters said he skates faster backwards than a lot can going forwards.

Like most NYR fans, I'm most concerned up front, namely center depth. We have some high-end talent in Kakko and Kravtsov, but we tail off quickly after Chytil and Howden. You hope Andersson takes the next step, but he needs a big year. I'm high on Aaltonen and Barron. Hartford also has Fogarty, who has steadily improved and could be one of the guys who becomes a tweener option as he nears 30.

There's a number of potential bottom-6 type of players, but we need that big-timecenter. If Kreider is moved, I'm interested to see who/what we target, plus there are potential pieces to move in Namestnikov, Fast, and possibly Strome.

We need at LEAST one or two more solid drafts in my opinion, and then we need a year or two to allow for development. We might be in the running in a year or two, but I think the real push will be in 3 or 4 years. Trouba and Panarin basically came at low costs and it would have been silly to turn them down. This is still early stages for the rebuild.

Go back and look at one of my previous posts in this thread. Rebuild is step 1. Contending is step 3. Rangers are in step 2, which is about development.

They haven't actually done a rebuild yet. They have made a bunch of good looking moves but this is more a February discussion. Jersey may be on the same track if Gusev hits but both teams need solid goaltending which wasn't really there last season. That division could be upside down in a year or two.

They haven't even made the playoffs yet are forced to buy out players to get under the cap. Make it make sense

as previously stated, the 2007-2008 Flyers were the quickest. from dead last to conference finals. and 2 years after that they were in a cup final.

Rangers have a long way to go. i don't think that roster is even a playoff team right now.

Ya'll just signed Wayne Simmonds, are paying $6M for a goalie who was in the AHL last season, and your best player is a pending free agent. Don't worry about our contracts.

Gonna say the obvious and already mentioned thing. Their rebuild is not done. I mean they lack so much depth right now. They have solid pieces but that's not enough when you fight for the Cup.

More of a re-tool than a rebuild. Had it been a real rebuild they would have traded Lundqvist.

for some of the older posters were the signings of Lindros and Fleury plus drafting Lundmark and Brendl a great off season?

They still don't have a #1 defenseman. Hard to contend without one.

It was, yes. Brendl was the next Pavel Bure, and Lundmark was the next Yzerman.

Lindros just whooped our ass in the playoffs for years, and Fleury was an elite goal scorer.

On paper that could of been an awesome/fast retool/ rebuild.

Being too lazy to look it up but didn't Brendl have like 70 plus goals his draft year playing in the dub?

I'm not worried, if the rangers sign hall next summer we'll just pick him back up in a couple of years when they buy him out. Schneider was in the AHL because he had hip surgery and tried to come back before he was completely recovered. Stay classy.

Came here to say this. And not only did they make the Conference Finals, but they put together a string a long playoff runs in the following years, including a SCF run in 2010. So they quickly rebuilt in one year and found sustained success with the rebuilt roster.

Can we maybe see them play a season first? Or hell, how about a game?
