They made a cover that they knew would go "viral". No, I am not equating the Leafs winning multiple Stanley Cups to herpes, I am saying that they made a cover they knew people would post on forums and twitter. Free publicity.

It's just THN trolling the Leafs again. Most of their articles I see are anti Leafs and this one is probably akin to a Leafs hater posing as a Leafs fan and saying something stupid to piss off the Leafs haters.

As for the meat of the article, it would be hard to make the case that the Leafs aren't on the path to a Cup. But there is still much work to do. And, of course, no guarantees.

Impossible to make a prediction like that. To win a cup a lot has to go right for a team, even for a team with an excellent prospect pool and NHL roster. Look at the Capitals for proof. They have been a very strong team, considered Cup favorites multiple times with excellent goaltending, defense and led by Alexander Ovechkin, one of the best pure goal scorers in history yet despite this they have failed to win the Cup year after year. Yes the Leafs and the Jets have excellent young teams and will be playoff teams for years to come but it is far from certain if either of these teams will win the cup with the cores that they have in place.

At this point, the Leafs could win the Cup, Babcock could say post-game that they're looking forward to going for a second one next year, and Leafs Nation would call him a "Leaf hater".

In all sincerity, in a bizarro world, is be curious to see what the caps would do if they didn't face the pens all those times. For whatever reason, the Pens have their number. But if they went out in the first round or didn't make the dance ....

Mats Sundin=Auston Matthews
Doug Gilmour>>any other player on the current roster
Larry Murphy>>>>any current Leafs D in the roster and pipeline.

They combined for zero Toronto cup wins. They are on path for contending, why not leave it at that?

They're just doing their job, which ultimately, is to profit.

What's going to sell more: "Hey Leafs might be decent for awhile" or "the Leafs are winning the Stanley Cup"? Which grabs more eyeballs?

A lot of sports publications do this and it turns out true so seldom that no one cares about it. It's for the rare time it is correct and the publisher can pat itself on the back and make Biff Tannen references for a week (see: 2017 Houston Astros).
