Anyone remember the rumour coming out of the lockout

That Spike TV wanted to air NHL games. Was that ever given serious consideration by the NHL or just one of those things that never was that close to being true.

Spike did have talks with the NHL. The problem was that their potential bid was lousy. Spike would not pay a rights fee as they wanted to do a revenue sharing deal similar to the one that the NHL has with NBC. The discussions ended since Spike didn't wanna pay up.
