wonder how many penalties will be called in each game tonight im going to say more then the current average. now thats its under a microscope guess we will find out

Now every fan of other teams will "think" they have the same problems us Leaf fans have with the officiating. :sarcasm:

Imagine if that was said during a Habs game or a Nucks game or a Leaf game...

at this point nothing would surprise me.. how many times have we seen mathews marner and nylander run. clutched grabbed on to interfered with no calls

Oh we know the refs don't protect our stars but that is no different in any other game/team. Many refs have a massive bias, Kadri is a diver and he deserves to be punished over and over and over for the same incident. Marchand has weak knees and falls a lot due to the other teams hooking and tripping him, must protect Brad. That Tkachuk dude in Calgary, that dude is a chronic diver and he never gets called. Why because many refs call the player not the play.

Wait is he fired or isn't he? Why are multiple people on here saying he's benched/suspended for 1 game?

Well, this is the leagues opportunity to do something about it. So, if the NHL actually has an issue with this (which I don't think they do), lets see what actions they take.

We all know they deliberately do not call penalties against the Leafs opponents, and have been doing so for like 5 years... because the Leafs might score a lot on the PP? I assume that is the reason... gotta keep that false parity going right. Oh three point game, but nah just 2 points over here.

I want the league to deal with this, but I feel by benching Peel for 1 game they feel they have done their best. Tools.

Why are you saying he's only benched for 1 game?

You gotta be kidding me.

Don't officials usually finish out the year before retiring?

No idea how it works but I assume he would have been apart of a "reserves" thing in case of injuries or emergencies.

So the dude was set to ref his last game in the next week. Way to go out on a low.

Didn't we have problems with this guy the past few years ....can't recall but I know there's been problems with him.

This seems very well organized...

Game management has been a pretty big topic these last couple of years, bigger than I ever remember anyway... not just us fans talking about it I mean.

The casino and gambling.

A ref who is about to retire, clear as day, makes a statement to reinforce what media has been talking about ans nhl has made comments on this year...

Nhl, makes an example to show they are against it.... now... in 2021.

This could actually end up good for the buds.

Maybe this will be the start of accountability for some of those guys...

Yep. At the very least it's something the league can't ignore and will definitely take some negative media attention.

Just have to hope it snowballs into real change. Game management sucks

Ahahahahahahahaaaha

This makes my day. Looks amazing on the NHL.

This will have reverbations. The NHL officially sanctions sports betting.

How is sports betting going to be unbiased when the refs are "fixing" games. Would this firing stop the "game management"? JT gets interfered and held all the f***ing time in the o-zone' refs don't do f*** all. These refs need to be disciplined every f***ing game

TRAIKOS: More penalties should have been called in Game 2, ex-ref says | Toronto Sun

I am still PISSED OFF about Game 2 against boston. Those pieces of shit screwed the Leafs that game. Leafs would have gone up 2-0 in that series if it wasn't for the f***ing asshole refs.

that said... f*** tim peel that guy has screwed the Leafs so many times I am just glad he has a black paint on his career that he got FIRED even if he was about to retire. Guy is classless and a pos

So when some hot market US teams like Nashville gets bad reffing, the league moves into action right away...but when the Leafs get bent-over-the-barrel year after year for the last several years by the refs...crickets...

The Gary Bettman Special: Treat small hockey markets like gold and give the middle finger to the big guys.

How does anyone know how many more games he had left? TSN is reporting his last game was to be April 24 (not next week)....so he gets 1 game in his last month? I don't think so!!!! The NHL did the right thing by letting him go immediately.

Also - sure, I believe game management exists to some extent, but there is certainly not a conspiracy against the Leafs (or any other team).

I'm still of the general opinion that skilled players have to force the opposition to resort to more blatant infractions. You have to fight hard to burst through interference and holding thus forcing the opposition to take you right down. Interference, holding, hooking alone are easy to ignore for the biased refs (even if only biased to call a game "even"). Make the infractions impossible to ignore.

It's not that there is a conspiracy against the leafs. It's that the conspiracy is game management, which is no go for any serious gambling future... they are not fixing games which a bookie would love they are managing which means games are closer and the favorites are no longer statistically as favorite, which is not only more complicated for changing payouts it keeps serious gamblers away.

The leafs were on the shitty end of the process. At team that is built to get more calls for, than against, due to speed, skill, etc... is balanced. So in essence teams that want to play the fine line will be punished basically the same if they did not.

If games are gonna start being called based on actual penalties, every team will be skilled and fast, like European hockey.

Every high skill, speed team will benefit and the more slower grindy teams will not.

Thinking out loud. I'm sure the NHL officials are a fraternity. Anybody think there will be a backlash now? Call everything/call nothing....as a show of solidarity?
