It should be noted that his contract is up after the 2011-12 KHL season.

Not sure if the OP meant this year or not.

Janne Lahti from SM-Liiga (FEL). Was the leading goalscorer with 37 goals in 59 games, also had 59 points. For the comparison, second in goalscoring scored only 30 goals.

Lahti is big and physical guy, who can protect the puck very well.

No-one is gonna garner the interest those two did, but Cervenka would if he decided to go to the NHL.

From Sweden there are a few candidates, which we've touched in the undrafted free agent-thread. Three goalies of interest, with Niklas Svedberg, Mark Owuya and Viktor Fasth.

Mark Owuya is a big goalie that have been labeled somewhat of a nuthead because of his off-ice behaviour and infamous appearance in the Swedish version of American Idol, but he's improving his technique and focus for every week and has had a very good year. Still some issues to work with, obviously, but a good physique and moves pretty well.

Niklas Svedberg is very sound positionally and showcases a very sound butterfly technique, but is "just" 6'1 which can be exposed with his covering style when the shooters can pick the corners better than in the SEL.

Viktor Fasth
have been the goalie of the year in the SEL, there's no doubt he's been the real MVP of the league this year. He's 28 though, whereas the other two goalies are 21. He's also a bit on the small side, which raises the same concerns as with Svedberg. Concerns with injury problems in the past as well.

Not saying you can't make it as a covering 6'0 goalie, but it makes it much harder.

On the skater side we've got Sebastian Erixon. No real super special abilities, very allround and intelligent, and few weak spots. Having a breaktrough year with half a point per game and an appearance with tha national team during one of the tourneys.

On the forward side, there are really no clear cut guys. Linus Videll is a big forward with great hands and vision. Might not be intense enough and might not skate well enough to handle a higher tempo, though. Was drafted by the Avs but their rights expired.

Some other guys from SEL that might attract some interest is:

Martin Thörnberg Twoway-winger that been a consistant topscorer in SEL the last few years. Pretty wellrounded player coming of his best season pointwise yet, looking pretty good in his games for the national team too. However, he is 27 and without a contract so if he ever wants to cross over and take a chance now is the time. Doubtful if he got what it takes to be a NHL-player but perhaps worth a shot.

I absolutely think Sebastian Erixon could turn in to a NHL-player, very smart player that is a real puckmoving d-man in the making. He isn´t fantastic at PP and he is no stay-at home guy but I think he could find a niche as a second pairing d-man. Think he got some serious potential.

Mattias Sjögren might be a bit interesting. Undrafted fairly young center that has developed well. If he ever makes it to the NHL he would be as a defensive center. He has looked great for the national team and seems to thrive in tight games. If he get the chance to play for Sweden in the wc, he could have a decent chance of being signed

Then there is of course some guys that allready tried there luck once in NA like Joakim Lindström and Mikko Lehtinen that was at the top of the scoring race.

Niko Hovinen, a 6'5'' tall goalie was by far the most valuable player for his team here in Finland. Not sure if he's NHL ready right now, but at least he's worth keeping an eye on.

Imo fasth been overrated due to the fact that he plays for AIK this season, which everyone was expecting at rockbottom.

Absolutely, if he wants to he'll be in North America next year with his size, skill set and the season he's having. Was surprised there was no interest last year.

Cheeurpmurray: Lehtonen is Wild property (Khudobin-trade), but Lindstrom have garnered some interest from the Senators among others during the season.

Smookie: But he's one of the main reasons for that, so.. or don't you think? :)

There seem to be quite a few finns that produces well in the european top-leagues and are quite young.

Who got the most potential of those guys? Are any theese guys heading over to NHL/AHL next season? Im thinking of:

Petri Kontiola
Juhamatti Aaltonen
Jori Lehterä
Perttu Lindgren

Kontiola and Lindgren already played few seasons in the AHL and it didnt seem to be enough at that time. Kontiola and Lehtera are fit for KHL, dont think they've interest of realistical chances to make it into NHL. Aaltonen is pure offense guy who's never going to be good enough for NHL. Lindgren is a wildcard no idea what he's up to. Id think player like Antti Pihlstrom could be up for another try but I didnt have a chance to see how he played in NHL last visit so dont know how he managed over there or player like Leo Komarov who could be interested for NHL try (even through AHL eventho he also has "star" status in KHL)

Fabian was a collective dream, a hope of a new star emerging from the depths of obscurity to lead his new team to the promised and elusive land known as champions.

he was also a pipe dream which in the end was merely nothing but smoke vanishing into the air. all hype, zero results.

Does Detroit still hold Igor Grigorenko's rights? He looked like the Grigorenko of old (pre-car accident) this year.

Habs came in North America in 2007-2008. Some people thought he would be able to make an impact right away and play on the Habs' third line. It wasn't the case and Lahti spend the whole season in Hamilton where he was far from impressive.

However, his number in Finland this year were crazy. Maybe he is a late bloomer. I don't see the Habs giving him another shot though.

as I've mentioned before in an other thread, keep an eye on Damien Brunner. He's a poor man's A.Semin. Smooth skating and slick stickhandling and loves to dangle, good playmaking, good shot (though far away from Semin's). He isn't big or strong, but plays with enthusiasm, goes to the corners and crashes the net.

He's the most promising forward beside Reto von Arx coming out of Switzerland in the last 20 years. Is already 24, but a late bloomer, playing international level for the first time last year, still developing. When he continues his strong play in the play-offs and has a good WC, I can see him creating some interest around the NHL.
