Started out on a 96 Ninja 500, moved onto an 02 Ducati Monster 620 then was lucky enough to get an 07 Monster S4RS which is my current bike. I picked up a second KX500 that I intended to get street legal in super moto form but I lost interest in that project. I have had a bunch of dirt bikes over the years but currently have the 97 and 03 KX500's and ditched the 11 KX450f for an 18 YZ250 last year.

well I had a Yamaha MX80 dirt bike when I was young lol.

In my province the insurance rates on Motorcycles is too high to justify owning one unless you either have significant cash flow or are single.

The insurance company up here is government owned and they really did bike riders dirty. Before you used to be able to just pay your yearly insurance rate monthly during riding season then take riding insurance off the bike and switch it to just fire and theft once winter hits. Now they front loaded the yearly insurance just for the 4-5 months of riding season and make the payments almost nothing during winter season.

Yeah I’ve heard horror stories from some of the Canadians on some of my bike boards, $3000+/year for insurance. it helps that I’m 50, full coverage on my zx14r ninja is $336/year.

I'm a new rider, but was able to get insurance on an MT-07 in Ontario for ~$1000 the first year. Then after my first year coverage was done, my insurance company decided they weren't going to insure anyone with less than 6 years of experience, and nearly everyone else had decided to label the MT-07 as a sport bike meaning it would cost me over $3000 to insure. Had to do some shopping before landing with All-state, who are about the same as what I was paying before, but only because of my age and driving record. Next summer I might just look at switching to a cruiser, since my rates would drop in half if I do.

Jesus. How much would my zx14r cost to insure up there?

They didn't really seem to care a lot about the CCs of the bike, just its designation. So for me it would probably be the same situation as for the MT07, but without the single option of All-State, who actually did care about the CCs on top of designation. So, most would refuse me outright, while the others would just try to price it so that I'd never want to do it, basically.
