Its a new decade and a team that has two 100 point players on their roster has a better shot then has beens being payed 10 million a year for past glory.

Kane can not be as effective if their cap is crippled by a 10 milion dollar third line grinder. So by extension his best years are also over.

If the young guys develop quickly, they can have another crack at it. If not, the Hawks are done for a good while. Same as the Kings, Rangers, etc.
