I think we will soon be having an announcement confirming he has signed with oilers and I also think that he will be a player some people will either love or hate.

For me I think he will be a good player who could develop into a second line player

Published Stats do not give the complete story on the guy

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=117748
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/anton-slepyshev/

he plays mostly LW--but did play some RW this year as well

I have seen him play about a dozen times since the Oilers drafted him and to me he shows all the signs of having that extra gear that you need to be in the nhl

some videos of him

one thing I do like about him is the fact he shows emotion and when other players shutdown he bounces back to try to get back any ground lost in the battle

two players (for better or worse) I will compare him to are Petr Klima and Ales Hemsky--but from what I have seen he has more heart and better hockey sense then both

If the Oilers are smart--they will have him spend two years atleast in the AHL before they consider him for the the main line up--he has a lot of raw talent and if developed properly he could be a great steal at 88 in 2013

articles from this past season in the NHL-some sources are better then others

Thanks for this.

Aside from your own thoughts (which are appreciated) can you point me in the direction of anyone else discussing him recently?

I too am optimistic. Looks to have great tools. Stats are skewed by low toi. I'll judge him better after camp and AHL time.

What we hear about him is good. The stat line is good for his age in the KHL. Him and Yakimov may make a great second line in Bakersfield next year.

Optimistic.

Im optimistic as well. I wonder if us getting McDavid tipped the odds in our favour vs. the KHL. Are we even sure he's coming yet?

Mentioned this is the prospects thread as well, but I'm not convinced he'll ever be an NHL player. I'm fine with us signing him, as it's good to have some young guys under contract, and you never know who will take that next step. But if I was a betting man, I'd guess that he'll be back in the KHL within a couple years.

McDavid would have nothing to do with friggin' Slepyshev. He's not some wunderkind we're pulling from free agency, he's a twenty year old we drafted we're bringing over. Same as Yakimov.

He's coming.

He probably had a small part. If oilers turn it around, its more appealing for him

Yakimov probably had a bigger impact

He also hinted he'd come over a year ago (or speculation). So it wasn't that shocking to me

This guy has been rumored as interested in coming over since last October.

I think he just legitimately wants to play in the NHL

Yeah, put a gun to my head and I'd probably say the same thing. His stats are not even fantastic considering how old he is are they?

Here's hoping I guess, but the hype on him seems a little high considering he has never even played in NA.

From what I've been reading it has always been really close between him coming over now, or in two more seasons. Its not that hard to believe that us winning McDavid could have ever so slightly helped factor into his decision.

Another question, did he fall to the 3rd round because of the "Russian factor" or was that where he was projected to be picked?

Playing in a pro league with very little TOI (like 10 mins). Its hard to produce

p/60 is a stat that can measure effectiveness, and slepyshevs p/60 is comparable to tarasenko and other top young KHL players. But I am hesistent to rely solely on that.

Either way, hes been captain on WJC, was a projected 1st round talent, first overall in KHL draft, and represented Russia at world events and tournies. Hes pretty highly regarded

cant remember exact spots. But Pronman had him ~17th in 2012 and 33rd in 2013

It was russian factor for sure

Teams were scared hed stay in russia, since he was the 1st overall pick in KHL draft. This was before the ruble hit rock bottom.
