I got bored from studying for exams so I thought I would give this a go

1. Detroit Red Wings – Jack Hughes
GM Zac Niece gets his franchise centre in Hughes in hopes to complete the rebuild with a 1-2 punch in Hughes and Velano.
2. Columbus Blue Jackets – Kappo Kakko
Kakko instantly adds a much needed offensive punch to the wing for the blue jackets, who are stacking up on offensive prospects with Frost, Suzuki and Sam Steel.
3. Philadelphia Flyers (via CGY) – Vasili Podkolzin
Philadelphia takes the risk on Podkolzin knowing that they have two other picks in the first round and one of the top farm systems in the league.
4. Dallas Stars – Bowen Byram
After having back to back first overall picks, the Stars take Byram to solidfy their defence for the next 5-10 years with Byram, Boquist and Dhalin.
5. Vegas Golden Knights – Dylan Cozens
Vegas adds takes centres in back to back drafts with Cozens and Hayton as a strong presence up the middle to pair with their explosive winger prospects.
6. Carolina Hurricanes – Kirby Dach
Although Carolina already has lots of centres in Barkov, Kotkaniemi and Lias Anderson, Dach’s smarts and size are too much for the Hurricanes to pass up, and leaves them in a good unfortunate situation in having too many centres.
7. Arizona Coyotes – Trevor Zegras
Arizona gets a smart and skillful centre with a bit of size in Zegras, which seems to be the pattern for Arizona after taking both Akil Thomas and Isaac Ratcliffe the past two years.
8. Florida Panthers – Alex Turcotte
GM Brock Otten refuses to go the WHL route and takes Turcotte, who I considered a top five pick before his injury and will work well in the panthers organization with kucherov waiting for talent to come up and surround him.
9. Edmonton Oilers – Cole Caufield
Edmonton after taking defenceman two years in a row, takes Caufield who is arguably one of the best goal scorers in this draft and adds an immediate need of offence to this defence first oilers team.
10. New Jersey – Peyton Krebs
New jersey takes the best player left in Krebs and adds a hard-working two-way winger who puts up points on a poor Kootenay ice team.
11. Philadelphia Flyers – Spencer Knight
With the second of three picks the Flyers take the best goalie prospect since Carter Hart in Knight. This pick makes sense for the flyers because they have so many good offensive prospects and the uncertainty if Sorokin will make the jump to the NHL.
12. Montreal Canadiens – Philip Broberg
Last year’s Stanley Cup winner had a bit of a down year takes only the second defenceman in this draft so far to build up the D-core for the future
13. Philadelphia Flyers (via BUF) – Thomas Harley
The flyers finish the first round by taking a defenceman to complement the forward and goalie that they already drafted. Harley exploded offensively this season and is a risky pick compared to the likes of Soderstrom, but Philly is all about the risks in this draft.
14. Pittsburgh Penguins (via NSH) – Matthew Boldy
Another USNDTP player in Boldy who is a big high skill winger who can complement Pittsburgh’s stars in Mackinnon, Boeser and Domi.
15. Los Angeles Kings – Alex Newhook
Although he played in a league considered to have lesser competition Newhook has skills and smarts and would be a great fit on the right side of either couturier or Schieffle.

NOTE!! Stars did not have back to back 1st overall pick's? Hischier was selected with the 2nd overall pick in 2017 (Stars won the lottery and moved up to pick 2nd). However the Stars did draft the "consensus number one pick's" in each of the last two entry drafts. Stars got screwed at the draft lottery this season...….humbug!! But happy to add a STAR with the 4th overall pick.

Note, STARS know they will draft either Dylan Cozens or Bowen Byram at 4th overall, so pressure is on PHILLY at 3rd overall.....
