The Caps have the best team in a wide open Eastern Conference...by a country mile. If a couple postponed games ruin their chances at The Cup then they are simply not worthy of winning it. Is it helpful loading in so many games in the second half? Probably not... But if they can't get it done will I look back and blame the weather for our loss? **** no...

ruin? who said ruin? the question was do the ppd games help them. if you say no, we jump to ruin? how?

You're 100% right. Other teams have to fight to get a playoff spot, we don't have to fight for our spot. Every team has a challenge, this is our challenge. We have to get in shape for the playoffs, playing every other night is a good test for us.

yes...playing every other night is a good test. 6 back to backs is a different equation when those back to backs all fall in a run of every other night games.

the question is a basic one. do the two games being postponed help the caps or make it harder?

I'd say it'll help Orpik and Carlson get back up to speed and hurt non injured regulars who have been logging minutes...

...ultimately if the top 4 and Holtby are ready for the big dance we should have enough firepower to take our best shot.

In the long run it makes it harder but I'm sure the players are really enjoying this sudden and unexpected break. The ASG is coming up too, it's like the season was divided in two halves.

Its amazing that going into the allstar break that we will have played 6 fewer games than a team like Chicago.

I will imagine we will give key players nights off as it gets closer to the playoffs.

There is no way the NHL just scratches the Ducks/Pens game from the schedule. The will cram them in somehow and it will be interesting to see how they do it.

EDIT:

Also have to look at it from all kinds of angles. Obviously the gate driven league thing and the revenue the team would lose but also player incentives and contracts. What if we play 1 or 2 less games and Ovie ends with 49 goals or Holtby ends tied or 1 game below Broudeurs record? What if players have incentives built in to their contracts for certain stats or games played?

If you are bored and missing Caps hockey, here's a video of all the goals Ovi scored this season including pre-season but without the last two against NYR and CBJ. Enjoy :)
