I have a lot of respect for the team the Leafs now have constructed . Didn't know where to put this post since some Leafs and Jets fans like to hate each other on the main board. I respect both team and really hope the Jets win it all before the Leafs but this doesn't mean I don't respect the great team the Leafs are. On the main board it is all about hate between our fan bases without any respect for how good both of our management have built two really good teams. If this is a issue I will no longer post on your board.

Both teams are doing it right, and it would be fantastic to have an all Canadian cup final for the first time in decades.

There's a few keys there:
1) He's finally getting an opportunity worth his talent.
2) His confidence is rock solid right now. Even when he doesn't get the puck going his way and the bounces are not there, it doesn't get to him at all. Something does break his way, and he delivers.
3) He used to have the same issue as Willy when they hit a snide. They waited for the game to come to them, for something to open up. All that is gone. For Mitch. He chases the game down and grabs it by the throat now.
4) He's noticeably faster. It's laughable that there were discussions last summer where certain posters called him slow. He's our second fastest forward and might be our best skater overall.

He's not just taken a step. He's taken two. There are some warning signs that indicate some regression, but even so I'd say that he's close to fulfilling his potential of being a Kane with better two-way play. And at only 21, he's still two years off the traditional prime.

Just take a bow. This is divinity.

I disagree with some points....

Marner is only continueing his dominant play from last season (with a slight step up at best, but not two full steps).

Remember the conversations had in the offseason, particularly when it came to debating whether he was a tier above Nylander...? I was suggesting (and a couple others) that Marner played at a different tier the last 40 games (season + playoffs)... but for some reason, people weren't satisfied with 40 game sample size for a 20 year old player. I believe he produced at a ~ 30G, 95+ point pace over that span...

Tavares (and Matthews on the PP) only helps him produce more. I don't think he's necessarily taken two steps from last year, at least the last 40 games... He's just been put in a better situation to succeed.

I was away the last coupe months, so here are my thoughts on Nylander. Its too early to judge Nylander's current play, but I'm disapointed that we caved to 7M. Should have been 6.25 at most. Regularily, 750K overpayment isn't a huge deal.... but with Matthews and Marner coming up, I fear that we will pay them 750K-1M more than we could have if we got Nylander at his market price, or not at all. Nylander has only shown to be a 60-70 point player on Matthews wing... and a 50 point center... I really don't see PPG potential (said the same thing in the offseason)... 7M is a hefty price to pay for that.

Im the midst of one of the best seasons in team history, after a HNIC win against a an original 6 team, and people are still going to argue about Zach Hyman?

People forget also that Hyman was maybe our best player in the playoffs last year. For all the hand-wringing going on that this team isn't built for the playoffs, you'd think people would appreciate that.

Jet fan here. Unlike some other Jet fans I have no hate for the Leafs and have a lot of respect for the team they have built. With TB playing so well you are in the same situation the Jets were last year when the Preds were dominating the league. Playing the best you can play but the team ahead of you keeps playing so well and still be the 2nd best team in the league but still be the 2nd best in your own division sucks. Last year the Jets were criticizes because they never won a PO's game but still beat the best reg season team in the league in the second round only to lose to a team they should of beat in the WCF. The Leafs keep getting criticize for their lack of success in the PO's but I think this is the year they destroy that narrative this coming PO season like the Jets did last year. I think that both the Leafs and Jets are the teams to beat as the next Canadian team to finally win the SC. Hopefully we meet in the final but I will cheer for the Leafs if they make it and are challenging for the cup and the Jets are out.

Cheers, hope you're right

I think I like reading his articulate, intelligent, even keeled posts more than I like ignoring a lot of the spazzing, snarky, petulant, negative posts that are put up here by a lot of “Leaf fans” here.

Folks who love and want to talk hockey, who don’t have agendas and can see the good in an opposing team and be objective about their own team are always welcome here.

Maybe some of our own can learn something.......?
.....and the Jets are a damn good team.

Marner now has 102 points in his last 79 games, 111 in 86 including playoffs. This is reality.

10M/year is looking like a reality as well.
50 points in 36 games +13. Second among wingers in takeaways this season (Top 10 in the leauge), 1st in primary assists, the composer of the PP, also one of our better penalty killer guy, was our best player in the PO as well last year.

Seroiusly, what else can you ask from a player?

And I wouldn't even be mad if he gets 10M. This kid worth every penny, I mean every.

Yep, what isn't he doing? His work on the PK is an emerging feather in his cap as well. 200 feet of desire, the engine of the team, if we get him under 10 I'm happy.

If I am Dubas I wait to see what Rantanen gets before I sign Marner. The AVs don't have the coin the Leafs do in order to overpay a player. Signing Marner first will have a trickle down effect on other teams having to pay their star RFAs (Tkachuk, Aho, Rantanen, Connor, #34, Laine, Boeser, Point).

Apparently he met Marner's agent in NJ, I'd try as soon as possible to be honest. I also think if you lock up Marner under 10, it may actually work for the team with Matthews, because he isn't worth millions more than Mitch.

All for locking up both soon because I am tired of hearing the idiots in the media talking offersheets. If we can get both AM and MM <= $20M I would do it now. This will set the market for the rest of the star RFAs.
