We're leading the NHL in goals scored this year

we'll still somehow manage to fall out of the playoff hunt by mid-January

I think we all have a pretty good idea of what form that somehow will take

The languish in mediocrity, but get hot down the stretch edition:

PlayerGoalsComments
Aho30Shooting percentage goes down, but shots taken goes up. TSA relied upon heavily.
PDG2No Top 9 ice time this season
Ferland10Traded at the deadline
Maenalanen1He'll play a couple
Martinook4Loses significant ice time in the trade
McGinn18A couple more go in
Necas15Solid rookie season
Rask15Recommits to playing inside the dots, but struggles to find his role on the PP
Staal22Lots of ice time
Svechnikov22Hall-esque rookie season
TT20Loses goals, gains assists
Williams13Sticks around past the deadline
Zykov14Plenty of PP time all season long and Top 9 minutes down the stretch
CDH3Not a goal scorer
Faulk10Shooting percentage rebounds, but the ice time cuts hurt; traded at the deadline
Fleury2Finally scores
Hamilton18Proves 17-18 wasn't a fluke
Pesce5Stats shooting the puck more
Slavin7Pretty static
TVR14 RHD gets old fast; traded before the end of the year
[TBODY] [/TBODY]

Call-ups add 7 or so, bringing the total to 239, which would have been good for 16th place last season.

If Faulk gets moved, the D goals are down 5-6, Hamilton gets 13, Pesce 9, Slavin 9.

If the return from Faulk is a forward, then the forward goals go up 5-6, with the new forward getting some from McGinn and Zykov.

In any event 236 goals.

I’m bullish on Hamilton’s goal scoring prowess. He should be getting prime PP time and I believe his goal scoring totals have gone up every year he’s been in the league. If he’s healthy all year, I don’t see why he can’t hit 20g and 50pts.

My total is 244, which I think is too high. I’d be pretty surprised if Faulk is still on the roster in October, so more than likely, his 10g are gone. Also I think Zykov’s/Maenalenen’s/PDG’s total of 28g may be too optimistic.

If the team somehow scores 230 or more, our only and biggest worry will still be the questionable quality of our goaltending.

“Bah Gawd, that’s Eddie Lack’s music!”
lol could you imagine... Darling gets pulled and all of the sudden the lights go dark, fog starts to pour out of the locker hallway, a red light starts to pulse lighting it all up, the music begins to build, and then suddenly, silence... a couple seconds later

"Lackooooooooo.... Lackooooo tacooooooooooo"

And then he bursts through the fog music blasting and the fans going nuts

This probably ends with Ward being awful for Chicago and the Canes trading Darling for him straight up to get the extra $ and year off their books.

Just for reference, last year the board's most popular choice was 240-249 and the Canes came in at 225 (I predicted 240), so it looks like right now, it's coming lower than last year's projections. Only @Novacane and @wastedtime got it right by picking 220-229.

Skinner (24 vs. 31), Stempniak partly due to injury (3 vs. 11), and Faulk (8 vs. 21) were my biggest misses on the negative side last year.

Hopefully Novacane isn't right with his zero prediction this year.

Thanks for the format, Big Daddy Cane.

PlayerGoalsComments
Aho25Points stay up, but goals go down
PDG2No Top 9 ice time this season.
Ferland13Spends time on all 3 lines and does ok, but never meshes. Traded at the deadline
Maenalanen6Early-season look gets 1 or 2, then gets sent down, returns after Ferland trade and gets 7 down the stretch playing with Aho, then Necas.
Martinook4The 4th line will not get scoring TOI
McGinn12Gets moved to 4th line in 2019.
Necas15Calling my shot. Defenses won’t know how to contain this kid. But lack of PP time hurts goal total.
Rask10Loses his role on the PP and the top 9
Staal18Nothing changes. Having McGinn and Williams won’t help matters. Slow start, scoring picks up after Foegele brought up.
Svechnikov22Impresses with Necas, but fails to convert on many quality chances. Breaks out the following year.
TT25Capitalizes on Aho’s setup and quality other winger
Williams15Slllllllow, but gets PP points
Zykov17Gets Aho and PP love, but not enough to stay on top line.
Foegele8Gets called up when McGinn and Ferland don’t fit with Staal.
CDH3Not a goal scorer
Faulk0traded before the season starts
Fleury4Shows us a bit
Hamilton15Drives everything, but doesn’t score as much
Pesce5Better scorer than his stats
show
Slavin6Pretty static
TVR4pretty static

229 total, I think?

So what I gather from this thread, most will be predicting us to be in the running for Jack Hughes by New Years (or will it be Thanksgiving?) whenever the "predict our season" thread is started.

Feels bad man. :(
