I would have gone to SD if I was him

SD prospect pool is impressive and they have some good pieces on ML roster that quick turnaround is likely

Honestly not sold on Angels becoming contender within that 3 yr period

How long does he have before we can judge how good of a job he’s doing?

I'd say all-star break... Even if the talent doesn't change the Angles brought Maddon in with the expectation of an attitude shift... At the very least I'd expect a .500 team this season with an aim for challenging for a playoff chase in year 2 and making the playoffs and earning a contract extension in year 3.

He's been with them the majority of his adult/professional life and still lives in the LA area. Likely wanted to go where he'd be most comfortable.

Hard to pass up managing one of the best of all time who is still in his prime, plus Moreno is going to give Cole whatever he wants to become the Angels ace.
