Interesting quote from the article.

Current Coyotes governor George Gosbee said previously that when Barroway takes over, he and the current members of IceArizona will combine to infuse $30 million directly back into the team, with as much as $9 million going directly to payroll. If true, that could make the Coyotes more significant players during free agency this offseason, although this summer's free-agent class is not considered strong. Barroway's arrival could also give GM Don Maloney more immediate guidance as he looks to retool the roster after a disappointing start to the season.

Sounds like with the influx of cash and some input from ownership we'll see where we go from here. Hopefully it's a pending UFA sell off and a yandle extension right away.

Really hope it's this and not trading for rentals who will help us push for the playoffs, miss them, and pick #12 again.

Friedman with some reassuring reporting on that front in his latest 30 Thoughts

7. Andrew Barroway attended Arizona’s win over Philadelphia, poised to become majority owner of the Coyotes on New Year’s Eve. His first public comments could come later this week, so we should get a clearer idea of what happens to the team’s roster. The NHL isn’t commenting on this, but a few sources indicated commissioner Gary Bettman would not approve the sale until more of the money from it was put back into the team, especially since the current owners are maintaining a minority position.

8. This may not, however, affect Maloney’s immediate decision-making. The organization is realistic about where this season is going, so it doesn’t make a ton of sense to spend extra now.

The $30M number in Morgan's article was reported earlier and that figure came from Gosbee himself ($15M each from IA and Barroway).

Friedman is essentially reporting the same thing, only adding the spin that Bettman was at the middle of it.

I guess the irony of it is that they don't need the money in the slightest next year. There will be several forwards on ELCs, and with the expiring contracts, they can have a better team for less money overall. If you actually do some big trades like Doan and Yandle, hitting the cap floor becomes an issue.

You're underestimating Maloney's ability to flood the roster with lunch-pail character guys on 1-way deals during the offseason.

Well glad that's out of the way. So much for all those "sources" saying the deal fell apart.

Now to see what this actually means.

But at least it didn't fall apart.

At least this likely gives DM more flexibility in terms of Yandle. Before this deal I could see teams trying to low ball DM for Yandle because they thought the Coyotes couldn't afford to sign him longterm but it would seem now DM likely has that option if he wants it.
