First, congrats to Vasy for overtaking the regular season shut out record. That is amazing. And to re-iterate, I do think he will end up the greatest goalie of all-time in our franchise's history when all is said and done. That said, I further fell down the rabbit hole and have come away with some pretty striking stats. Look at how the Bulin Wall stacks up against the other Stanley Cup winning goals playoff performances since we hoisted it. Also note Bishop and Vasy's stats in 14/15 and 17/18, respectively. Vasy definitely has to take that next step and will us to a Stanley Cup before he becomes the best ever in our pantheon of great goalies. Right now, the Bulin Wall still indisputably holds that title.

I don't know that you can directly compare Dead Puck Era stats to now.

Save percentages are higher now than the dpe.

This year? I thought they were down.

I might be thinking of Hasek and his crazy .930+ every year, but he was an outlier.

Haven't goals been up, for the most part, since the '05 lockout? How can save percentages be up if goals are also up? Just more shots?

It is a fair point to make. And the chart should be viewed in that light (TMM is right on the SP). In my opinion, though, it still does not alter the points I have made here. Vasy is the most talented goalie we have ever had. Vasy already has the quantitative regular season stats to make a colorable claim as the best goalie in our franchise's history. But ultimately, irrespective of the 2003/2004 season falling in the deadlock era, the the Bulin Wall still holds the belt. He willed us to a Stanley Cup. Carried us on his back and brought us to the promised land. 5 shutouts during the span of a single playoff run is incredible. His other stats are mighty impressive too. During the most recent playoffs, Vasy indeed had a few herculean performances. Yet he also choked in games 1, 2 and 7 against the Caps. If Vasy locked it down, we would have won the Stanley Cup. Because of that, I am unwilling to award him the title of greatest goalie in our franchise's history. Hopefully he snatches it this summer. And clearly when Vasy is finished (several years from now) the regular season stats he puts up will never be able to be touched.

Could he get nominated again this year?
Currently #1 in S% and #2 in GAA.
The islanders duo have very similar numbers but have split the load 50/50

Gibson started strong but has faded.

Halak, Bishop, and Anderson seem to be the other possible choices.

I know a lot of people will use the "team" argument but Louis #s are significantly worse so even with his insane W/L

The other possible argument against is GP

He’s not that far back in wins either.

He’s not that far back in wins either.

As far as GAA, you have to remember he's faced far more shots than nearly any other goalie in the top 10. So the fact that his GAA is so low is a testament to how good he's been.

Anyone who watches the Lightning knows that he's singlehandedly kept them in games until the offense gets untracked more than a few times.

Vasi is 1st in the league in save percentage at 93.0% (tied with Lehner), 1st in shootouts at 6 (tied with Fleury), 5th in GAA at 2.28 and is 3rd in wins at 29 behind Andersen and Fleury both at 30. Andersen has played 6 more games though, Fleury 14 (!) more.

Does he have a real chance at winning the Vezina? Or are games lost to injury too much of a drawback? I mean Andersen was injured too, Isles run a 1a/1b combo etc.

Is somebody going to explain Coop playing Vasi this much with absolutely no necessity to. If you look at last 5 years stanley cup winners all the goalies played less than full seasons. With Domingue playing well I don't get why he wouldn't at least play Domingue every 3rd or 4th game. Goalie Workloads and the Stanley Cup

Because he hasn’t actually played much at all because of his injury.

at the time of the 4th it was 12, I'm not arguing Vasi has been great , he has. I'm saying he has in the past been shaky when overplayed. Why not sit him more? Only reason I can see is the meaningless records vanity of records. Records that will mean nothing if he plays badly in the playoffs and they don't win the cup.

I’m not disagreeing. It’s a tough decision though between giving him too much rest (risking rust/cold streak) and overplaying him (fatigue).

well if you go by his first game back after being injured , think time off is not a problem for Vasi

The stats back you up, he's been trending down this month compared to last month. Some of that probably has to do with the team having wrapped up everything in the regular season, but he has looked a little shaky too. I would like to think the coaches are monitoring him, especially since he said last year he got tired in his first full year as a starter.

Vasi plays worse when he sits too much though. It's a delicate balance. Remember when he was basically splitting starts with Bishop before he got traded? His stats were mediocre to the point a lot of folks were panicking over losing Ben. But then he got the bulk of the starts and started kicking ass.
