I don't get this myth that his final two seasons in Montreal were so bad. He was still better than any dman and could have been better had they not leaned on him so much and played him smarted with focused minutes to keep him fresher for the end of the season. His ice time his final two years were 23:50 and 21:50 respectively. Play him 19-20 minutes and especially on the PP and it would have been a boon for him and the team later in the year. Heck in the 2016-17 playoffs they ended up leaning on him to the tune of over 26 min per game.

Not saying he was bad, just by the end of the season, even casual fans could tell he wasn't following the play, it was too much for him.

He didn't look terrible, but did he look better than Benn or Folin would have in the same position? The KHL ice gave him more time and space to make decisions but his passes were less crisp, he was noticeably slower, he had to switch coverage a lot more than you could get away with in the NHL etc.
In the end I don't think it will even come close to happening so we end up arguing about something that has about as much chance as Drouin playing with some heart *zing*.

Because Marc Bergevin was such a f***in moron with no respect for Markov when he said his stupid dog commentary. He should sign Markov to a 2M$ contrat, with a big signing bonus, so Markov can come and ends his career as a Habs. He's a LD also, that could help on the PP which nobody on our D can do except for Petry and Weber and both are RD. Worst case scenario you mutually agree to stop the contrat, but Markov will have received his signing bonus.

Don't get me wrong, I love Markov, but this is 2 years too late. By all accounts, he looked slow and old in the KHL last year...how would he look against some of the fastest teams in the NHL? I get that he's a very smart player, and that he can position himself to not get beaten as often, but brains won't help him in a foot race.

2 years deal 1.25-1.5 million a year

If you're going back to Markov ,if that is your move...

I prefer not too...

I don't want another of those cheesy Pleky forced to retire ceremonies either...here's your stick now get out...that was low class...

but if the Habs are goona do it with Markov , he wouldn't be the worse Dman on the roster....even at 41......at reduce minutes 5-6-7 D..with PP time etc

2 year deal x 1.25 million a yr.

If they do sign Markov , he should NOT be in the top 4 at all...if that's the plan i don't want to sign him .....forget that..

bottom end Dman? 5-6-7 , ok...

Do you guys remember Markov two last seasons with us? He was already regressing by a good margin, by the end of the season he couldn't follow the play anymore.

After two weak seasons in the KHL I'm pretty sure he'll play like Mark Streit played with us last season.

One*** weak season in the KHL. The first season there he literally won the cup, and was their top defensemen

More useful than a number of the LD that the Habs are going into the season with, especially on the PP. But like I said it won't happen, just don't see Bergevin doing something like this.

Mobility was an issue three years ago and it’s probably not gotten better, but the NHL sure hasn’t gotten slower.

If he plays in the 5-6-7 slots...keeps him away from the other teams top end guys....at 41 in the bottom end of the roster , he still could find a use....(powerplay ..5-6-7 d)........

he probably could go 2 more years IMHO in that role...

The days of him eating huge minutes top 2 ..forget that...12 minutes a game easy workload, for a old work horse like Markov...

I don't really want him back..and he was a fav of mine also BUT....when you look at pro vs cons....

1 .we know the player.
2. if we had his PP points last year we'd made the playoffs.
3. Markov at 37-38 was still eating 25 minutes a night!
4. If Habs do sign him , 12 minutes a game..with PP time..that be a easy load for him to handle....

5. Markov is better than signing Nate Prosser....lol

If Habs sign him he has to stay all season...not like how they did Plekenec...If they plan is to give Markov 10-15 games then retire him...forget it ...I dont wanna see it .

The premise of putting a guy who is done out there so he can hit 1000 games may seem great in your mind but it's kind of insulting for a player as well. It's one thing if he had 1 game left but a competitive player does not want to play 10 games and get burned all game by younger, faster, stronger players.

It sounds cute to some people but reality will set in that at his age he's likely done. If he was a forward that's one thing but as a D-man his mistakes will show more.

Ending your career being burned for 10 games isn't a great experience. It's depressing. The only thing is if he accepts playing as a 7th d-man for 10 games and being a PP specialist.

MB should make another public spectacle and claim that there is only one contract spot available and it’s going to be first come, first served between Markov, McCarron and Hudon. :sarcasm:
