2 millions to Markov or 8 millions sleeping…..

Bergevin signed Steit, Hemsky, Semin and tons of other crap over the years that didn't worked out, that gave nothing to this team.
Worst case scenario, Markov becomes one of them…..not entirely sure i want that either but i would prefer to pay him to be in and out of the line-up than paying a guy like Peca or Folin.

AND….old or not, Done or not, i'm pretty sure Markov could still run a PP like he used to be. That could be a huge help.

He doesn't have it in him to run a PP. PP coach maybe but a lot of his power is gone now.

I'd be happy to have him back. I don't think he'd be great, but our LD isn't good to begin with. Maybe if he plays 12-14 minutes a night, and helps out on the powerplay he could be useful. If not, maybe he'd be willing to just stick it out as a healthy scratch and mentor kids at practice.

I agree that he might not have the stamina to play 5-on-5, but his PP game was all about his vision. don't need to skate fast, shoot hard...just distributing the puck.

If Markov had an agent 2 years ago instead of one now, he probably would've finished his career in Montreal.

If the Habs currently had the level of class they were formerly famous for, Markov would have had a contract 2 years ago to hit 1000.

At that time he still would have been superior to Alzner.

H e couldn't skate when he left.....he isn't even a decent KHL dman anymore.

One of my favorite Habs in the last 20 years but he is done and has been for a while. It would be a sad site if he came back and embarrassed himself.

Why not? Use him as a bottom 3 guy, play him for 90sec during PP. Let gum rack up the points, no NTC, move him at deadline if it works out.

I have to admit....I would really love to see Markov get his 1000 games in with Montreal....but I dunno if I would still do it.

Maybe a PTO, bring him over, take a look? Maybe he would look better on the smaller ice

$1M AAV contract with performance bonus. If it don't work out, send the contract to the AHL and it has zero affect on our cap space.

Markov had as many points on the PP as Nathan Beaulieu his last year here despite playing a minute more a game on the PP than Beaulieu.. on top of that he'll be 3 years older this year.

Our PP sucks because we lack shooters up front, mainly on the halfboards.. we have enough guys who can pass it but the only threat to shoot is Weber. Adding a 46 year old Kovalev as a PP specialist would almost make more sense than bringing Markov back.

Unlike Pleks, Markov can still be useful in a limited role, PP specialist, minimum ice time.
He's still a clear upgrade over Mete and Kulak and can mentor them at the same time. Wouldn't mind seeing him back for a couple of mil but he's not the #2 guy we're looking for to play with Weber full time, that's for sure.

Based on what? You have seen him and watched him last season? I did. And Markov isn't Markov anymore.

Pretty sure he could fit well with the physical and mobile Juulsen while getting some PP time with Weber.

Problem is blocking Kulak who is trending well and signing Chariot. But signing Markov would mean Kulak needs to step up and play to the level he played in the last 30 games. Competition is a good thing cause it keeps players energy up if they want to stay in the line-up

Probably better than Chiarot.

So funny that the team was terrified of giving him that 2nd year so they gave Alzner 5 years instead and now had to give Chiarot 3 years.
I don't think the two players are comparable.

Chiarot will be our most physical d-man outside of Weber. At this point, I have a hard time believing Markov would be much more than a PP specialist.

If Habs sign Markov, it's gonna be like Plekanec last year... Just to give him his 1000th game and retire in a Habs jersey.

Sorry. I like the player, but now it's time to turn the page.

If he want to be back it would have to be a ligue minimum 1 year deal and has a 7th D.
He is good with the puck but he doesn’t have the speed anymore we saw it in is last year, he adjusted so he doesn’t get beat outside and he doesn't Hold the line in the offensive side and give up the blue line to easily on D which lead to all kind of chances...

I'd take him. Even if he's not great, who cares. He's good leadership, even if he is benched from time to time. And I mean... our defense sucks anyway, so they could use some leadership lol

Probably isn't too bad on the Powerplay either.

Absolutely. I was tacitly implying that - but not clearly, obviously.

I may have read your post too quickly, sorry about that.

I thought using “might” instead of “would have” was more appropriate. :sarcasm:
