I can't imagine them signing him but he would sadly probably still be our best left d
No, no he seriously wouldn't be. Markov's time has been and gone, great as he once was.
I learned a long time ago not to bet against The General.
No idea what he could add to our Dcore at his age, worst case scenario he's a Bottom Dpair.
I would take a chance on him in a Heartbeat.
If he can fit Romanov in his luggage then yes!
Paul Postma had twice as many points as Markov playing on the same team last year. I love Markov and wished he retired here, but he'd basically be as useful of a signing as Streit was.
If Simon Despres and Joel Ward could get invites to training camp, why not Andrei Markov?
No disrespect to Markov but he’s kind of old. He struggled a little 2 years ago...
Not sure what respect has anything to do with it. Is respect calling the guy, listening to him and tell him no thank you. Or is respect not giving somebody's false hope? If we were done with Pleky, we are done with Marky.
He would be fine as a 3rd pairing D and I would be happy to see him back on the team. The problem is Bergevin has already stockpiled too many depth defensemen. Chiarot, Reilly, Kulak, Mete and Alzner are 5 NHL D for the left side, not to mention Olofsson, Leskinen and Ouellet. It would be ridiculous to add another guy right now, unless Alzner gets bought out somehow
Sign him to a 1 year deal like Pleky did so he can hit 1000 and then mutually agree to terminate the contract
Probably better than Chiarot.
So funny that the team was terrified of giving him that 2nd year so they gave Alzner 5 years instead and now had to give Chiarot 3 years.
Would love to see him hit 1000 but I don't think there's room for him in the lineup unless he's somehow found his prime at age 40.
I'm a big Markov fan but he has regressed to the point where I don't think he can help us anymore.
I'm sure our organizational name is just being dropped to try to create some KHL leverage.
The general is back
If bergevin gave him 2 years contract instead of one, today markov were going back in russia after a nice career here. And nobody would talking about alzner
Maybe he's just looking for a 1 game contract
Well he’d still be the smartest guy on the ice. I definitely wouldn’t be upset to see him suit up with the habs again.
And he’d probably also be the best blueliner we have on the left side. That’s where we’re at right now.
Alzner was signed before Montreal and Markov parted ways. It wasn't they didn't want to give Markov that 2nd year and then they turned to Alzner. Their plan was to have both.
They had also traded for Schlemko before all of this. So their plan was to have an LD of Markov, Alzner, and Schlemko.
He was slow when we walked away the first time...but he was always a smart defenseman. I could see MB doing it though if only to garner some good vibes and get Marky to 1000. I mean...I'd rather have Markov on a 1 year deal than make a mistake on Gardiner for too long.
It's not much of a risk...feels very much like an MB move a la Semin, etc.
Unlike Pleks, Markov can still be useful in a limited role, PP specialist, minimum ice time.
He's still a clear upgrade over Mete and Kulak and can mentor them at the same time. Wouldn't mind seeing him back for a couple of mil but he's not the #2 guy we're looking for to play with Weber full time, that's for sure.
If Markov had an agent 2 years ago instead of one now, he probably would've finished his career in Montreal.
