Heard Tourigny say today on some French media. He basically said:
i) he contacted a few NHL teams
ii) he would accept a coach job in the AHL
iii) his preference is to stay in the NHL in whatever capacity (assuming assistant coach here since coach is probably out of reach for him at this point in his career)

If he and Cameron do in fact enjoy working together, then these comments are very good news.

Sounds like it would be a perfect fit here with us having such a young, impressionable d corps. I'm sure he would love to work with a guy who has a chance at being a generational defenceman, along with Ceci, Cowen and Weircoich who all have top 4 upside.

NHL teams do have "lists" they go to in the event of an absolute emergency of having a goalie go down with no time to get a signed goalie in town before puck drop. Most of the time, the lists consist of former college-level or European-pros that live in the immediate vicinity. This also applies to the AHL as well. Most times, these are goalies that have helped the team out during summer training or being available for NHL players to shoot at while rehabbing an injury. Some teams are more prepared than others and have names of goalies in every NHL city they can count on. If it were to happen to Ottawa, they have a HUGE list of amateur goalies to choose from here including Matt Spezza and Mike Fisher's brother Bud.

Florida's situation was tougher because how many ex-college/European pro goalies do you think live in Miami and can drop what they're doing to dress for the Panthers?

This guy is our emergency back-up.

I always thought it was kindaof random that Jason Smith decided to have a position with the Sens. I thought he'd go and work for the Oilers in some capacity after he retired considering he spent so much time with them in his career and he was only played 1 season in Ottawa

I have no idea if this has anything to do with him not staying in Edmonton

but i googles smith one day and this popped up. Was surprised

I read yesterday in a French newspaper (Journal de Montréal) that Tourigny being hired by the Sens is probably a done deal. The reporter who wrote the article said he called him in Denver and Tourigny didn't deny it, confirmed that indeed he talked to Dave Cameron about a week ago, but nothing can be confirmed before 1st July because of his current contract obligations with the Avs.

Here's the link for the article (French): http://www.journaldemontreal.com/2015/06/01/andre-tourigny-chez-les-senateurs

The first paragraph mentions the Ottawa Sun as a source which is meh but the fact that the reporter actually called Tourigny and he didn't deny it makes it very probable in my view.:handclap:

Fat or not, Matt Spezza is in FACT a used car salesman. I have his business card. There is signed memorabilia all over the office of "My Car", including from EK.

**** that was really awkward

Props to him for swallowing his pride and earning a paycheck one way or another. But that has to be a tough pill to swallow being known as a "used" car salesman.

Maybe it's better than working for a dealership, I really don't know anything about the automotive sales world, but it just sounds like a step above rock bottom to me...

So what's the lowdown on this guy? Is he really good with helping defenseman improve à la Hejda?

Because maybe Murray wants to see how he works with Cowen before giving up on him.
