what reasons were she given? Is that consistent with other close contact scenarios?

Nothing other than "Well that's just how we do it". Basically people following "guidelines" designed to cover the hospitals ass and not using a shred of common sense.

Yeah, that's crazy. I would have expected that the hospital would have been really proactive.

We had a co-worker scare last week with a close friend and co-worker of my wife having quick onset COVID symptoms shortly after her and my wife met at a local farmers market. Thankfully her test came back negative. She is a transplant recipient and we would be so worried for her if she had it.

Yeah. My wife actually took this role because she liked the management and felt she'd get supported in this hospital, something she wanted in her first role out of training Less than a year in, she's finding out the opposite, sadly. They forced into a shift based pay model that basically means if she takes any vacation she has to work like hell the rest of the month to hit her "required shifts" and this is the second time she's been denied COVID testing when she's requested it. The first time was a less serious exposure and she wasn't showing symptoms. It was also early when the tests were much more scarce. However, last night, they had zero excuse not to give her a test immediately and send her home for the shift or at least put her in a call room until she got her test results (5 hours) other than "the protocol". If the Protocol allows for a symptomatic surgeon to continue to work on patients and be around other coworkers after she has found out she was exposed by one of the other surgeons, it's a pretty f***ing useless protocol.

I just wish people would use some f***ing common sense, especially in a HOSPITAL setting with people who work in the ICU and are around high risk patients. There's zero reason there shouldn't be on demand testing for them when they've been exposed. Especially when they are ON SHIFT.

That's not too surprising given the State they're in.

Ah yes, because everyone that has been defecating on the transit system was doing so because there wasn't a ban on defecating. This whole time they were the geniuses following the rules and we were the schmucks for thinking they were doing something against the rules. lol

My guess is they tried to arrest someone for doing this and found out there was no law on record to charge them with so they "fixed the glitch" so to say.

From my experience, peeing in the corner on Mass Transit is the real issue. I don't think I ever ran into actual poop, though, I think I've seen a couple of people who maybe pooped their pants judging by the smell.

Also, remember the golden rule of riding the subway: If the subway car is packed and there's an empty seat.....it's empty for a reason. Don't sit there and find out the reason first hand. Trust that the 15 people standing next to it aren't stupid.

I learned my new boss is a Leafs fan. I should still tough it out, right? There are a few lines I would never cross and I always figured this would be one of them.

Times must be tough.

What, are you kidding me? They'll put up with mediocre work for decades! Miss a deadline? "We'll get'em next year", completely and utterfail due to a lack of planning "Yeah Bettman is totally out to get us because our market is so big!"

You just got on the MLSE gravy train buddy. Lower your standards and blame everyone but yourself!

This situation is similar to the realization years ago numerous (hundreds of) Federal employees were using government computers to watch porn while on the job, with the most egregious employees doing it several hours a day. [Side note: Firing those employees was often a challenge and/or lengthy (while still paid) delay, depending on what agency they worked for, their union / managerial status, pay scheme which applied to them, i.e., GS, SES, etc.] So a North Carolina Congressman introduced a bill to make it illegal for government employees to do that on government IT systems. And the response from the agencies and certain other members of Congress was that it was already against the rules to do so, and employees are apprised and/or re-apprised of those rules, regardless of how effective the IT system blocks, filters, etc. were (with the exceptions granted to the DOJ in their authorized pursuit of child pornography offenders). And the Congressman who introduced the bill said, "Yep, it's against the rules, but people are still doing it."

I learned my new boss is a Leafs fan. I should still tough it out, right? There are a few lines I would never cross and I always figured this would be one of them.

Possible options:
1. Invite him to Hfboards.
2. Invite him to Hfboards, but point him to the Leaf board.
3. Invite him to Hfboards, point him to the Leaf board, and reveal your username to him.
4. I think you're in software development or similar tech. If you get a chance to name a project, beta-application, fileshare, or other "thing" of repetitive internal use or prominent internal placement and repetition, which he will be a frequent part of, name it "NOTSINCE1967".

Third day of being ill. I don’t think it is COVID but I am self-isolating in my bedroom and bathroom, wearing a mask when I emerge, and trying to not spend time in the primary living areas since of course my kids are here when I get this.

I think it is an ear infection based on how it feels. If things don’t improve by tomorrow, I will be off to my primary to get tested and hopefully treatment.

had virtual career fair at business school today. i am in the financial analysis & data analytics programs so i am looking for a summer internship in analysis for a bank or corp. met with m&t, keybank, & citi reps.

m&t and keybank were just HR people so those were very blah conversations, didn't talk any technicals or really get to have interesting discussions.

citi guy i spoke to, however, manages a team in their security & derivative settlements dept, so we ended up chatting quite a bit and exchanged contact info at the end. they do an ops analyst program that seems pretty suited to my career goals, and i think i made a really good impression when we got a little bit more in depth on industry topics. that's definitely my #1 target at this point all things considered. would be a huge W if could land a summer position there, and seems like a great fit culture wise.

anyways, that's what i did today. got like 1 more hour of stats homework and then i'm gonna watch the b-ball game

3 accused of creating man cave under Grand Central Terminal
“Many a New Yorker has fantasized about kicking back with a cold beer in a prime piece of Manhattan real estate — especially one this close to good transportation,” MTA Inspector General Carolyn Pokorny said in a news release. “But few would have the chutzpah to commandeer a secret room beneath Grand Central Terminal.”
The were just thinking outside the box trying to come up with ways to make the subway experience more enjoyable. The should have spent more on the futon.

COVID negative for a second time, still suffering from fever and body aches due to the strep infection I have. Hitting the antibiotics to knock this shit back now.
You can speed things up by eating hot peppers. They'll clear that gunk out of your sinuses. Pepperoncini or banana peppers are hot enough to do the trick.

when I was still doing tactical stuff, I’d go to the mask confidence course. A whiff of CS gas, and everything in the sinuses out now!
I had an experience with that without a mask when I was in high school. My mother nagged me until I agreed to go some banquet with her. About an hour into it, someone tossed a couple CS grenades into it. I managed to get my mother and a few others out before I couldn't take it anymore. It was some cop's kid that did it. Nothing ever came of it.
