Henrique scores goal number 24 in the last game of the season for Ducks. Both Anaheim and New Jersey make the playoffs. This trade was probably one of the best made all season with both teams benefiting imo.
As close to a win-win trade you can get.

Yep a trade both teams needed and help both teams make the playoffs such a great trade it was.

Yup! I bet Devils fans are stoked. From one of the worst teams in the league last season to making the playoffs the very next season. I can’t find a better win win trade other than that. Remarkable turn around for both clubs regarding upgrades.

Yup. Very definition of a good hockey trade.

Adam needed a change on scenery he played a lot of lazy unmotivated hockey for stretches over the last two years. Hynes mentioned it. Shero talked about Adam having another level he just wouldnt go too in NJ. Im glad the trade worked for both teams. I wouldnt undo the trade, thats for sure. Sami was exactly what we needed.

To be fair, Vats has always been a black hole defensively, but you do need some offense from the blue line in todays NHL. Ducks already had the offense, so Vatanen was redundant and left in a marginal third line role.

Win-win as Vatanen was handed a bigger offensive role in the Devils and seems to be handling it just fine despite the increased TOI and QoC.

There we go. I wondered how this thread had gone on so long without Hagged bird-dogging it out to come in and toss around some Vatanen hate.

I did say Vats seems to be handling the increased role just fine. Don't see how that is hating on him, I'm actually saying I was a bit wrong about him thinking he was only a third pairing D-man with a spot on the team as the power play specialist and was never gonna be anything more than that. I do admit I was never the biggest fan.

In my defense, it actually would have been hard to be the biggest fan of his on the ducks board, with all the Vatanen>Lindholm fanboys from Finland like Eenok. The little good things Vatanen did in his limited role was immediately ruined by ridiculous overhype surpassing basically any overhype seen on these boards.

Yeah this is BS. Not sure why you’re trying to him fairly evaluate when you’ve shown in past that you can’t.

Vat’s defense wasn’t “black hole” worthy at all. His defense was never the issue, it was the lack of consistency. He was traded because Montour made him expendable and we had a massive hole we needed to fill. We also knew that when Fowler was extended, someone was likely going to use that money on the forwards. Montours game is much more comparable to Vatanen’s than Fowler’s.

So yeah, you’re way off. Vatanen wasn’t reduced to a 3rd pairing role and his defense was fine. You’ve proven you can’t evaluate him fairly so don’t try to now.

Never the biggest fan is the understatement of the century.

Yes, some overhyped him on our board. Just like some overhyped Lindholm and Fowler. That’s not that uncommon, unfortunately. What’s rare is when a poster seems to have some vendetta against a player. I’ve only seen it twice on our board. You with Vatanen, and some other guy who doesn’t post anymore about Fowler.

I know this would make most neural fans say New Jersey easily won the trade, but I really hope Vatanen makes the all star team next year. I think he'd do really well and be fun to watch in that format

Calling him a defensive black hole shows where you are coming from. Devils must have awesome forwards and goalie to make the playoff with a black hole as their #1 D.
