ok, so i've put a bit of research into this, and tried to piece together the best team of NHL players from each province. I was able to sort through the players in the hall of fame by birthplace, so that helped a lot, but i'm sure I still overlooked quite a few players. I've tried to organize them by position when possible, and also by skill (best players for each position on line 1, etc). I did my best to make a "checking" line as well. So far I did the two easy ones to find players for in Ontario and Quebec. I also did Saskatchewan, which had a surprising number of Hall Of Fame players compared to Alberta, BC, Manitoba, and the Maritimes. Hopefully I'll get around to the other provinces soon, but if anyone could post their own, it would be awsome

I've divided the players up by where they grew up and played their hockey, not necessarily where they were born. (Yzerman was born in BC but grew up in Ontario, whereas Brett Hull was born in Ontario but from what I can tell played his minor hockey in BC, etc)

Remember that I've never seen almost any of these players play, so I could be way off as far as who I included on the team, or which line they should be on. So feel free to correct me, because I enjoy learning about this kind of thing

Ontario

Forward
Bobby Hull - Gretzky - Mikita
F. Mahovlich - Esposito - Hawerchuk
Yzerman - Francis - Gainey
Lindsay - Morenz - Kennedy
Should Lindros be included? (prime of course)

Defence
Orr - Potvin
Robinson - Kelly
Park - Coffey
Stevens, Horton, Pronger?

Goal
Dryden
Esposito
Durnan

Quebec

Forward
Bossy - Lemieux - Richard
Dionne - Beliveau - Lafleur
Moore - Keon - Geoffrion
Robitaille - Perrault - Malone

Defence
Harvey - Bourque
Lemaire - Savard
Lapointe - Provonost
I had a bit of trouble with who and where to put everyone after Harvey and Bourque

Goal
Roy
Plante
Parent

Saskatchewan

Forward
Abel - Howe - Hextall
D. Bentley - M. Bentley - Olmstead
W. Clark - Trottier - Fleury (bumped Trotts down to make this deadly checking line complete :D )
Propp - Lach - Federko

Defence
Shore - Flaman
Redden - Warriner
Witt - McLaren
(obviously I couldn't find anyone else, so I just plugged holes with current NHLers. help would be appreciated here)

Goal
Hall
Bower
Rayner

So how close am I?

Haha, not a powerhouse, but the power play might be able to do some damage... one of the best offensive D-men ever running it, the greatest offensive forward in the history of the galaxy (!!!) as the centerpiece, another very good 1000-point center, and a very capable finisher. And Flash Hollett was at one time a record setting offensive defenseman, or so I've read... after the powerplay unit, only Mike McPhee looks good to me!

Should Lindros be included? (prime of course)

In his prime, he was better than some of those players... but nah, leave him off. They don't need him, that team looks good and Eric's a flake.

With it's first "out of province pick" Nova Scotia selects...

Eric Lindros!

Not bad, Beliveau put Lemaire on the point for the powerplay in the only game he ever coached!

Hull is basically attached to Ottawa at the Ont-Que border, so maybe he was born there, but according to the Hockey Hall of Fame, he's a native of Ottawa:

"The native of Ottawa, Ontario, excelled at football and hockey as a youngster. Having opted to pursue the latter, he made the Ottawa 67s of the Ontario Hockey Association in 1968-69. Potvin enjoyed an outstanding junior career, registering 329 points in five seasons."

Link to Potvin's HHOF bio

I'm counting the players for where they grew up and played their hockey as a kid, not where they were born, so Potvin is an Ontarian to me, even if he was born in Quebec. Same reason I had Mikita and Yzerman on my Ontario team, and consider Brett Hull to be from BC

Dougie Sulliman was a darn good player his nick was wheels he could kill penalties and play on powerplay his career eneded more or less in playoff gamne vs boston when he hiurdled the bleu line one leg went the wrong way and he pulledhis groin and lost his speed and eventualy 2 yrs later hsi career which had over 600 career points which is dang good!

Hey pnep,

Is the SIHR site a good site to be a member of? It looks interesting, do you get your money's worth of information?

Let me know what you think.

Ottawa and Hull is the same thing, it's just that there's a bridge between the two. The question is to find out which side of the bridge he was born on. My guess was that he was actually born on the bridge.

Ontario lays claim to Yzerman even though he was born in Cranbrook, BC?
