And there would be nothing wrong with being 2nd to McDavid. I just see Matthews style of game being more valuable as he continues to evolve.
You can say the same thing about Connor. He lead the league in takeaways last season and already this season. He's on the 1st penalty kill unit and has done a fantastic job so far in his career as a PK specialist. His defensive game is extremely underrated. Put Connor in Toronto, and he's probably breaking records right now. But I love watching Matthews too, he actually reminds of Crosby, and McDavid reminds me of Lemieux

Look, Matthews is stronger on the puck. A better goal scorer and a more complete 200 foot game, but I'll adtmit as a leaf fan that McDavids speed and puckskills make him a better player. While I don't believe the gap is asahuge as oiler fans believe,He will probably once again lead the league in points while Matthews will fight for the Rocket Richard every year. But you know what I'm completely fine with that because I get to watch Matthews and the Leafs dominate the league.

Would have been interesting to see how he would have done without the injury. I think it was around mid November that he was still pacing above McDavid's sophomore year?

I don't think he was. He had 19 points in 16 games before his concussion.
