All tourney team:

Selanne - Koivu - Ovechkin
Lidstrom - Timonen
Niittymaki

Niittymaki was also the MVP.
I agree with all those choices, altough I'm surprised there was only 1 Swede.

I thought I heard them mention Kenny Jonsson as the best defensemen in the tournament after the game. Is that true?

I didn't hear that, and I'd find it hard to believe since he wasn't the best defenseman on his own team.

I think that international press chose Teemu Selänne best forward, Kenny Jonnson as best d man and Niittymäki best goalie.

On top of the World
Kenny Jönsson was voted best d-man by the directorate (Nittymäki was best gk and Selänne best forward)

The all-star team was selected by the Media.

Here is my, by the way

Nittymäki - Lidström, Jönsson - Sundin, Koivu, Selänne

MVP Lidström

Looks about right.

I'm a little surprised at Timonen, though. Granted, I think I only watched four of the Finnish games, but I didn't think he was that great. Good, but not all-star quality.

not suprised. All 4 lines in sweden produced well, but no one stood out exceptionally except for Lidstrom.

Only Lidström has truely shined for sweden IMO. A true team collective where the lines have gotten more balanced ice time than on other teams.

I would've had Lehtinen ahead of Koivu and Selänne... Otherwise pretty good.

I don't get this...Canada wins in 2002, and wins the world cup. Sure...they flame out in the olympics.

But what the HELL has Sweden done on the world stage until today?

the ranking started in 2003, and since sweden took silver 2003, 2004 and 4th place in 2005. (or did we take bronze?)

still we choked in world cup 2004. But I guess everybody else was a lil inconsistant as well.

He was amazing in the defensive play. He really washed my doubts about his size away, he CAN clear the crease of huge opponents :amazed:

Does World Cup count? That leaves a foul taste in my mouth...

It sure shouldn't. It's a pure exhibition tournament.
Naah... I'd say it's the nhl-world championships. And it's also a best-of-best tournament.

The world cup ranks right up there with the olympics imho

The euro-hockey tour is the exhibition tournament.

Like it or not, it's competitive. And it means a good deal to the players.

I does not count, however, since it's not an IIHF competition.
If it did count, I guess Canada would be #1 and Czech Republic #2.

If the best aren't allowed because of the NHL, it's not a best-of-best tournament.
