IIHF - Poehling MVP

MVP:
Ryan Poehling, USA

IIHF Directorate Awards
Best Goaltender: Pyotr Kochetkov (Russia)
Best Defenceman: Alexander Romanov (Russia)
Best Forward: Ryan Poehling (USA)

Media All-Star Team & MVP
Goaltender: Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen, Finland
Defenceman: Alexander Romanov, Russia
Defenceman: Erik Brannstrom, Sweden
Forward: Grigori Denisenko, Russia
Forward: Philipp Kurashev, Switzerland
Forward: Ryan Poehling, USA

------------------------------------------------

My only complaint is that Talvitie wasn't selected to be in the All-star line up. He should be at least a contender for the MVP as well.

MVP should be someone from team Finland, having a loser as the MVP is completely nonsensical.

As other habs fans echoed, extremely happy with our prospects. Ylonen and Primeau played great as well.

Let's hope we can develop them properly now that we have a competent AHL coach.

Pretty sure the IIHF makes the media submit their votes by the 1st intermission of the gold medal game. Crazy, I know.

There weren't any runaway winners for any of these awards in my opinion. A really poor year for standout performers, which isn't that surprising given the '99/'00 birth years weren't exactly great overall.

Poehling has to be the least impressive MVP winner since they started giving out this award. He won that for 10 minutes of play, which is sad.

If anythng it would be nonsensical (and also unpractical - the voting itself) to automatically award to someone from the gold-winning team even if a player from another team would be more obvious choice.

To me Poehling was pretty good but the best player in the WJC 2019 IMO was Romanov, he was the most dominant player on the ice every game he played.

I was very unimpressed w Poehling aside from the 10 min surge vs Sweden.

Thought he lost a ton of battles and didnt show up when the games got harder
Except when that time his team trailed by 4 goals and he put it on his back
.. right?

Are you also aware that he lead he tournament in points? I guess that doesnt count?

I mean take away his four points game and hes still PPG.

It stood out as the tournament of many good goalies IMO.

The easiest way to reduce the amount of losing team getting MVPs would be if ballots would include two options for the award:

MVP if USA wins
MVP if Finland wins
