Just thought I'd pass it along to the History buffs — The NHL Network is airing the 1980 and 1983 ASGs tonight —

If you didn't get to watch these Hall of Famers in their day, it's a good chance to see a bunch of them in one game.

1980 is the year Wayne and Gordie both played — and they gave Gordie a ten-minute standing ovation in Detroit where the game is played.
Wayne 19 years old and his first NHL ASG
Gordie 53 years old, in his 23rd ASG ! !

also including Tony and Phil Esposito, Guy Lafleur, Reggie Leach, Gil Perreault, Ratelle, Dionne, Gainey . . .

1983 was Gretz's four-goals-in-one-period game.

also including Lafleur, Mess, my namesake and Darryl Sittler, Denis Savard, Trots-&-Bossy, Potvin and Robinson and Bourque, 2 Stasneys . . .

they're going to repeat both games in the overnight.

Sorry to hear that.

They just interviewed, by chance, a young U.S. Olympic team coach Herb Brooks, just a few days before the unexpected Miracle on Ice history would be made.

and it's so weird seeing the super-young Wayne, 19 and 2 weeks old — first year in the NHL and they're still talking about him as a young kid with potential. :sarcasm:

As John Garrett makes sure to point out everytime he is part of a Canucks broadcast, he would have won the MVP award had Gretzky not scored those 4 goals.

Listening to Gretzky after that game sounds a lot like Crosby today, right down to their voice.
