Even though we'd miss Haula, him being a UFA just seems like a good value move to trade him for someone with term. I'm fine with him Dzingel or any of our picks outside of the 1st round. I would have had TVR and Edmunson in that list but I guess we need them.

I won't be surprised if Carolina doesn't get a deal done until the very last second, if at all, specifically because of the reduced prices of rental options in the face of potentially losing players for nothing. I remember that one deadline where the Isles held onto Vanek for far too long because they thought that he would be an easy re-sign. They had to dump him to the Habs for peanuts at the very last second when they couldn't finalize an extension.

At some point, I think we have to look at the Capitals, Pens, Bruins and Lightning and realize it's not our year. We're not getting past that, even if Hamilton, Pesce, Mrazek and Reimer heal overnight. Give the younger guys a chance to hold the fort and let the chips fall. Winning a round was a longshot before last night. No need to give up assets.

Honestly, I want to watch the team that played the third period last night -- sans Ayres-- for the rest of the season.

The interest was serious.

I don't doubt that they were serious. What I AM saying is that they clearly seem to like to cap their offer just a tad bit less than the top bidder, particularly if the analytics of said player aren't really very good. They're interested, sure, but they're not desperate. They remind me of what Cheveldayoff is like, except much more active. It should be noted, BTW, that Charlotte is a much deeper farm team than Syracuse, which is why Tampa probably offered more.

The Caps have 3 more wins than the Canes currently. If the Canes are healthy they can beat anyone.

if they have better goaltending (Lehrer) is actually bet on it.

Not to be overly simplistic but making the playoffs in back to back years would be pretty huge for this team, even if it’s a first-round exit. And of course we’ve seen first hand anything can happen once you make it.

You don’t move a 1st for anything short of an impact player with term or an extension. But a 2nd and prospect type move for someone like a Vatanen or Lehner who has a decent chance of signing here? Yep, that’s the type of move you make.

I suspect we’re still more likely to add a goalie, the double call-up and Lebrun report seem like some posturing from Waddell. Who else is giving up a first for Lehner? I think he’ll take it right up to the deadline and gamble Chicago will blink. That interest has seemed real for a while.

Either way we’re gonna get a good look at some of the kids (Ned, Beane, Priskie, Keane etc.), and hopefully that leads to some fun, desperate hockey down the stretch.

I get that, but we just lost two goalies and two top four d-men, while they added Kovalchuk and Dillon. Pittsburgh added Zucker and you *know* JR is going to make a move tomorrow. The Bruins and Lightning are loading up, too. One of those four teams will be our first-round opponent. It's very likely that we'd have to beat three of them to make the Final. It's just not gonna happen.

Also, I'm not saying we *can't* win. I'm just saying we should try to win with what we have and not try to plug holes in the dyke. Even with Lehner we're facing a huge uphill struggle. There are times to load up and trade assets to make a run. This isn't one of them.
