They have $0.00 cap space. How are they going to match? Even if they find a way, they would be screwed.

They have plenty of cap space at this juncture with Marner not even signed yet. And you can exceed the salary cap by 10% during the off-season. The Leafs match that easily rather than accept the minimal return of a 2nd round pick, and then figure out the salary situation. What your offering Kapanen likely isn't far off what the Leafs would give him anyways.

Kessel would be great but what are we giving up to get him and how does that work cap wise?
Getting rid of Backes and Miller would do it. Not sure what it would take to get Kessel, maybe a certain offensive defenseman? I have no idea.

In terms of trades, here are some that will probably never come to pass but which are interesting to think about:

1. Boston sends Krug to Detroit for the sixth overall pick in this year's draft (at least, that could be the basis of a deal).
2. The Bruins send Krejci and a prospect/pick to Carolina for the latter's first-round pick in 2019 (#28) and Stelio Mattheos (right-shot RW/C).
3. Miller is dealt to whomever for a mid-round pick or a McQuaid-type return.

Boston could sign Matt Duchene as a Krejci replacement.

if I`m moving Krug, it HAS to be for an established and bonafide NHL upper tier player, NOT a kid who has played 0 minutes of pro hockey

I would agree with you, but which team that could really use Krug (and to which he would accept a trade; he has an eight team no-trade list) could offer in return a young C or a right-shot RW (Boston's biggest needs)? Off the top of my head, I can't think of one. So, Detroit, his hometown, could be a good trade partner. I don't know, however, whether Yzerman would relinquish the #6 pick for Krug.

In my opinion, Detroit does not move the #6 pick for a defenseman with 1 year left on his contract. Krejci scored 72pts last season playing with DeBrusk, who in my opinion does not have much chemistry with, and a revolving door of RWers. If the Bruins deal Krejci, he should return much more than just a 1st round pick.

There is also no guarantee the Bruins sign Duchene so the Bruins can end up without a #2C to start the year if they trade Krejci and do not end up signing Duchene.

Sign me up for this, exactly what I would want. We could then trade some prospects along with a roster player for someone like Anderson.

I wouldn't expect a Detroit-Boston trade to be a one-for-one of Krug and the sixth overall pick; Boston would have to add something (a decent prospect, for example). I think that Krug, who is from Michigan, would re-sign with the Red Wings. I'm not sure about the return on Krejci, given his age and contract. I think that my proposed return from Carolina would be what Boston could expect, at best. Anyway, as you say, there's no guarantee that the Bruins could land Duchene to replace Krejci.

Wasn’t Kessel unhappy here and requested to be moved?

Duchene is interesting but I would hope if they’re looking for a winger for Krejci it would be more of a power forward.

He was but that was due to management I believe and there an entirely new management since he left. Also it was reported when he was traded to Pittsburgh that Boston was on his list 8 teams he could be traded to. I think Kessel would be fine to come here the issue is how would it work with cap and sending something Pitts wants. Also Pittsburgh is a team that wants to be competing next year as are we so I don't know that JR would love the idea of possibly meeting Kessel in the ECF.

I like Duchene but I would be shocked if we signed him. I see him either staying in CBJ or going to Montreal or Nashville. They'll offer more.

Try and find trading partners for of at least two of Backes, Moore and K. Miller. Free up enough space to sign our RFAs and then bring Johansson back.

Moore is injured and out 4-6 months.

Kevan Miller is also injured.

You have to try and move Backes first and foremost

Can someone verify that you can't trade an injured player? I'm pretty sure this is the rule but I could be wrong

Any line ups with Danton Heinen as our #1 RW is bad.
How this kid flies under the radar because of his advanced stats is still beyond me.
Deal this guy, I dont want him on any line next season. Replace him with some muscle.

Heinen+Zboril for Josh Anderson

Columbus doesn't take that.
