his skating is getting better with each game and that last goal should make Ranger fans very excited... just nasty

Should we start a thread for next year's 1OA in advance?

Put it right next to the "Calder Favourite" thread that year after year has the 1OA as a shoe-in. Hot takes go both ways on these boards.

He needs to start getting more pucks on net. Even during this hot stretch he's only got 5 shots in his last 5 games.

Nothing about his game looks elite. Just solid at everything. Lacks a dynamic component to his game that a player like Stutzle has. Physically not much to grow either.

Very interesting how this player turns out.
This is a horrible take.

Elite hockey IQ. Elite passing and vision. Elite hands and skill (I’ve only seen him dangle a couple times so far but it’s definitely a confidence issue - he’ll start doing it more often soon). There’s also a huge gap between “elite” and “solid.” He might not have elite speed or an elite shot (yet), but both are still high-end.

Imo, the issues were a combination of rust after not playing hockey for 9-10 months while simultaneously entering the highest level of hockey in the world with a short training camp and no preseason. Lack of confidence too. He just wasn’t handling the puck. Didn’t seem to want it. Now he wants it.

I’ll admit I was very worried, but I’m feeling a lot better now. We’ll see what happens.

Had a good, short run of goals and points, congrats from that but, recently, has struggled again to produce.
rookie season totals so far : 4 goals, 3 assists, -8, 33 sog, in 25 games

Why didn’t (or don’t) you guys want to give him time to adjust to the game and learn, instead he has to deliver instantly or go home. Don’t be greedy.

1st season points are just data porn, doesn’t really matter in a long career.

As a Bruins fan, I thought he was a lot more noticeable last night then he was the the previous games. Seems he is improving. I thought he looked quite fast

Yeah he's definitely been playing more confident of late, and has been much better with keeping his feet moving. I bet he finishes with a stronger 2nd half end breaks 20 points in the shortened season.

That said, even in his "good" games he doesn't really look that special. I know people will say it's early, but I think it's time to start lowering expectations. This is going to be a very good player, but it seems unlikely that he'll develop into a Matthews / Eichel / MacKinnon level talent. We all missed on how translatable his skill set was and how NHL ready his game was.

I think he'll end up proving to be worthy of being picked 1OA, but I think he'll probably fall slightly below average vs other 1OA picks in the last 20 years.

There is a significant flaw in the rangers coaching/FO.

Our 1OA is underwhelming in his first season.
Our 2OA is having less productive second season than his first.
Our 7OA broke and we had to separate from him
Our 9OA ran away back to home
Our 22OA defensemen had a good start, but the longer he is exposed to this org, he worse he is getting.

There has to be some kind of radiation leak under MSG.

Fox and Miller look great though (which pains me to say).

Seems like a problem developing forwards specifically.

More in the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins category than Auston Matthews?

Miller in the last 10 games has been not nearly as good as the Miller of the first 10.

But you are right Fox escaped failure here, but then again, he wasn't drafted by us or played in our development system.

His skating is improving. That is what gives me more hope than everything. He also had the hard snipe and a great backhand (post). They gave me hope as well.
