Seeing this kid having his own thread, poor kids, the level of scrutiny they have. I'm having scary vertigo cause my nephew who is in midget AAA just got a call from a team in the Q and I can just imagine all the specialists starting to judge him. Michael Lalancette be nice, please. lol

I find the QMJHL process so interesting.

I went to school with a kid who was selected 7th or 9th overall (memory is failing me right now), his name was Matthew Stoddard. This kid sucked. He came from a rich family. He played hockey with all of us and like I wouldn't have picked him first for my intramural team.

But his family had him at all the camps, all the big name events, under all the big name coaches in the area and he was taller/physically mature than most his age. But he sucked. And well, he sucked.

He was a 2nd round pick (35th overall) and he had pretty good stats in Major Midget. He also scored at a 1.67 PPG in Junior A at 20.

But yes, sometimes money tends to help some of these kids.

I thought he went higher than that but still 2nd round pick was a bit, well, way too high.. I don't even really think he deserved to be drafted. Plenty of guys who never went anywhere who were better than him. Always blew my mind.

In fact, even a goalie, from my high school, was drafted.. albeit much later.. who was also very rich.. TJ Keeping. He was garbage as well.

Not sure I would designate an undrafted overager as a bust. He had setbacks in his junior development through no fault of his own, but even if he peaks as a middle-six AHL forward, he'll at the very least, help that sad team.

Anyhow, we need help and retooling at all levels of the organization. He didn't cost assets or a draft pick we had to use, so it's a no-lose to me.

That said, we got bigger needs and issues to address and arguably the most important amateur draft in a decade coming up. The amateur scouts better not mess this up.

Alain like Waked, Evans, Verbeek...are all for the moment AHL caliber material. Can we just wait a year or two before making a judgment.

not be harsh, but overagers like him are bottom 6 material at best.

I hope I'm wrong, but that's what most of these players turn into

I've seen the kid play often. Actually does have a good attitude but more importantly is a good all around player. He couldn't play for crazy tyrant Ben Groulx and thrived for the Armada when traded.

Wait wait wait - so you're saying there's cronyism and/or incompetence in Quebec???

I'm sorry but I can't be bothered to find a gif that appropriately describes the shock and horror I feel right now

Sarcasm out of the way: yeah, not surprised. But that guy didn't have two first names though, so.....

Glad to hear your expertise on the matter. You should work for an nhl team.

Since the habs signed him he must be a bust.

This is why we can't have nice things.
Ducks and bolts say no to him but we signed him wow.
Things are so shitty in Montreal , fans are getting excited about a 21 year old who couldn’t dominate the q. Awesome
Oh sorry. He’s having a good playofff. Wow

Tell me about it. In my opinion it's always been really political from most of the time on all levels my nephew has played the game. It's always who you know, the word of mouth, reputation. And really it's not for low income people. That is why the well of players is so thin.

But it takes a lot of dedication and commitement. You have to really love hockey and be ready to travel a lot and commiting to it during school. My brother in law and his son are both hockey nuts, they are really passionate so that's not an issue for them. But I would never have done this as a player or parent.

If it were me, every boy would play hockey in elementary school in Quebec. You get the free equipement and so forth.

Solid signing. Right handed shot center. AHL depth is needed. I think we need to get a few right handed shot defenseman for the AHL as well. Especially if Juulsen makes the big club next year.

Maybe AA becomes a solid bottom 2 forward for us down the road. Let’s see how he adjusts to the pro leagues next year where there is less time and space.

Another guy I want too see a full season in the AHL is Addison. The injury he got early last year was disappointing
