To steer this slightly back on topic (before I give a Chinese recommendation to Dave) this is one of the reasons why I find Belanger's alleged whining about disliking Raleigh because he was not able to find a French-speaking community BS. It's certainly there and I've met more French natives here than I'd have imagined.

Yup. And if you're too lazy to do that, go to La Farm in Cary and ask to parlez avec Denis. Voila, mon ami! It is a shame that the Blanco family closed Gourmandises de France (the French pastry shop that used to be on Creedmoor in the same shopping center as Dos Taquitos). I haven't had a good mille feuille, or tarte au citron since.

There's also the family that runs the Parlez vous crepes food truck, though I'm not sure if they're French or just Francophiles who've lived in France.

Wow

"Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name. Please search for Krasnoyarsk:sarcasm: in Wikipedia to check for alternative titles or spellings."

So small it doesn't have a Wikipedia page :sarcasm:

This made my day. So many good times there. In a perfect world that place will always be there.

Loved that French bakery, but I'm not sure if the family closed it since I found out it was closed via a "padlocked by sheriff" note on the door. Still, the best eclairs I've ever had.

I do believe the family sold/sublet it to another local Frenchman who renamed it Plaisirs de France (whereas the Blanco's shop was Gourmandises de France) - it's possible he was who got his business "padlocked by sheriff." One thing's for sure - he wasn't half the baker Denis was.

There's also this article from last year - I went to the bakesale and bought a few things and a few crepes. For a short amount of time it was like the good 'ole days!

I think he does really love it here. He is from a small town in Russia and I think he likes that way of life...Let's just hope we can keep him as he has been nothing short of amazing. So much so, that I forget Jordan Staal is on the team.

Semin hails from Krasnoyarsk. It's a 1Mil. pop. city. I don't think this has an impact on his contract decisions, though.
