Definitely doable. Mama didn't raise no quitter, though. ;)
At the point of 850 I think it wont be so critical to actually do it.

Maybe retiring will make it more like Obi Wan moment of forever being there. Like Lemieux :P Nobody forgot he could reach those numbers. 850 and 1-2 more cups sounds good too.

PS: 4 cups and 900 sounds better, but why not try to be humble?

Ovie is amazing. 11 goals and 1 assist in his last 5 games. Passes Messier for 8th all time in goal scoring. With 695 career goals, he now needs 200 goals to pass the Great Gretzky.

Even Sens fans were chanting his name. That’s respect.

Oh and Ovie now tied for the League lead in goals scored with 37. Things are returning to normal, it would seem. :)

Pretty sure the backlash against Ov is coming. It might be that Gartner is far enough removed that it will reduce the pressure somewhat but Ive already seen a NY Post article saying Gretzky is being discrespected and a POV on the mains that Ov isn't worthy

Well, most of that is bitterness from Pens and Crosby fans. They hate when the NHLs spotlight isn’t purely on them and their stars. At least on these boards.

Crosby off to a decent start returning from injury and Ovechkin has stolen all the spotlight and rightfully so. That infuriates them.

Not to mention the prospect that if Ovie passes Gretzky in goals and breaks the unbreakable record, he’ll have to be considered the best player of his era.

As to the Rangers, they are bitter that they didn’t win a Cup in the 2010s. The NY Compost is as terrible, as ever.

As to Gretzky, he is pure class and is going along with a feel good story for the good of the NHL. It’s sure better than the looming prospect of a huge lawsuit against the NHL for CTEs.

That’s like saying Lebron will never get a fair shake, look at what Skip Bayless is saying

Compost... funny how it's the same meaning in Russia.

Im thinking that if Ovi can score 60 this season he has a real chance to win Lindsay. Maybe 57 or smth will be enough to let him have Esposito at 3 goals in front for the next October entertainment party.

Im thinking big. 4 awards photo again: Richard, Lindsay, cup and Conn Smythe (because compost wont vote for Hart surely).

If Ov scores 60 there is going to be a player for the Hart. Unless the Caps fall apart as a team. Ovechkin with 60, another rocket and captain of a Presi team, there is going to be a push.

Ha. Funny. Just saying you are going to see Ov is not worthy stuff coming. Today its Stamkos is really as good as Ov.

In the history forum one of the regulars maintains that James Neal = Ovechkin or close enough that the Capitals would not notice the difference.

Messier was a stud. I like how he would take on the punks of the league like McSorely without batting an eye. That all said f*** him he is now in the rear view f*** Crosby too talking shit about he can relate to pressure Ovi was under. Ovi had to beat his opposition and also the league, at least compared to puffy who would whine complain and dive his way to victories.

Lol. Yeah, Crosby was the League's golden boy for many years. He knows nothing of the xenophobia that Ovie had to endure from a biased shameful Canadian hockey media.

As to Messier, he was a total stud. Tough as nails, extremely skillful and great leadership. Also, the class to wish Ovie well, unlike Mr. "I'm bigger than the game Lemieux.

I wouldn't react that way to McPhee. Its like he got Ovechkin and then iced a decade of Florida Panthers. The Caps were as close to winning most of that time as they were the season that they did win. Would you have traded Alzner(knowing tht the ask may well have been for Carlson) approaching his prime, Varly, and a 1st round pick for two playoff runs with Chris Pronger? Would you have traded Varly for an established front line goalie?

IMO the only think those teams were missing was Brooks Orpik and a goalie that would make the critical save

As the time goes by, Alzner + Varly + 1st for Pronger sounds better and better :P

Cup back then + confidence it gives = years of better play after. Ovi would be at 750 or higher now :P

The ASK can be anything....if it brought a Cup or 2, arguably worth it. That said....happy we didn’t now.....

Now if only we could get Tex to stop bringing it up.....
