Bruins, Alexander Khokhlachev Have Talked About NHL Return

"Khokhlachev indicated to us originally during the year that he was interested [in returning to Boston]," Sweeney said. "He did re-sign back in Russia, so I don’t know if necessarily – we had some preliminary talks and where he’d fit."
Khokhlachev's interest in a Boston return likely comes back to the fact that Bruce Cassidy is now running the bench in Boston.

The 5-foot-10 forward had a 'great relationship' with Cassidy during his time with the P-Bruins, recording 61 goals and and totaling 171 points in 197 AHL contests. Khokhlachev undoubtedly played his best North American hockey under Cassidy in his final season with the B's organization, too, with 23 goals and 68 points in 60 AHL games in 2015-16.
It was night and day compared to Khokhlachev's relationship with then-Bruins coach Claude Julien, who relegated Khokhlachev to a bottom-six role and/or limited ice time in his nine NHL appearances, which prompted Khokhlachev to criticize his development during the opening days of Boston training camp in 2015.

This was written last summer. If Claude was still coach then I would think there’s no way he’s coming back. Under his old coach, still not likely but maybe.

"He did re-sign back in Russia, so I don’t know if necessarily – we had some preliminary talks and where he’d fit."

I wish Sweeney had finished that sentence.

Khokhlachev's interest in a Boston return likely comes back to the fact that Bruce Cassidy is now running the bench in Boston.

How "likely"? It didn't work out that way when it was "his relationship with Cassidy" that his return was "likely". Originally started by Friedman I believe.

We’ll see how prospects like Frederic and Studnicka progress into next season. I think if there was ever a time for Koko to get a chance on the Bruins, it was this year so I guess not very likely. Also not sure if his rights hold much value. What do you think? It looks like Sweeney had interest last summer, so unless he’s traded, there’s a chance he comes over next season.

I get that people are tired of talking about Koko, but this team desperately needs more offense. I'm all for giving him another chance if the opportunity is there at the end of the season.

I can't believe this guy is only 25 years old. I feel like we've been talking about him since I joined this board
We've been chatting about him since I joined.

Not the biggest fan, but I can't think of a Bruins prospect who deserved more of a shot than what he got.

Ah, good ol' Koko...

Glad to hear he's playing well anyway. Seems like a bit of a pipedream to hope that he'd come back to Boston, doesn't it?

You know what? I would be talking to that team right now. If he doesn’t want to trade his young prospects, then what a better option that just costs money. What do you have to lose. He can’t be any worse than some of the guys on the 3rd line.

Khoko would be a cheap pickup for not roster cost (other than waiving Cave.) Should be pursued. I am just not sure he is what the Bruins are looking for right now. Think they want a rental that is a vet with offense and some size.

But that's my speculation.

What's the rules about waivers and him having played in Europe if he were to finish up his season in the KHL?

That guy isn't ever coming back. Great, he's scoring in the KHL. That means nothing. He's on a team with Kaspars Daugavins and has 4 more points than that plug.

How many times have they written that sentiment in the thousands of posts about Carl Soderberg?

Sweeney apparently was interested in his reunion with the team six months ago. What has Koko done to change his mind?

Maybe he hasn't changed his mind, just that there is no point to taking it further right now this season as Koko is under contract in Russia. There might be a Koko return this summer still on the cards.

Currently leading his club in points, just four ahead of Kasparov Daugavins.

Martin Karsums is also on that club.

It’s like a walk down disappointing bruins memory lane.
If only they would bring Sergei Zinovjev out of retirement lol.

I didn't see this - good for koko...perhaps we have a 2019 koko / Cassidy reunion ?

good lord, if true, I`d have to fast for months as I would have to eat more crow for this than I did for my prediction of Marchand who was, IMO, destined for a career in the AHL at best

I remember watching Marchand/Karsums in Moncton. I couldn't believe how good Marchand was and how ineffective Karsums was. All I read was how Karsums had foot issues....last I heard of him.

yep, my predictions on Marchand were nothing more than a silly resentment I had for the way he conducted himself once he got traded to the Mooseheads. Had nice stats but they didn`t tell the story. He was just a massive puck hog and my season tix were for a decade 4 rows behind the bench and you could hear the coach screaming at him to come off and he totally ignored him game in and out. Pissed me off to no end and I struggled to let it go

Totally agree...I remember fans in Halifax not being very impressed. He did poorly in playoffs that year? correct?

Weird...he's from the Halifax area. Think he would be motivated to help the team. It certainly didn't appear this way.

yeah, fans were livid, his puck hogging continued in the playoffs which was even worse as the ice gets smaller, checking gets closer. That team had so much talent, not that he was THE reason they lost but had he been less selfish, things may have ended differently
