Well Edler has been the very least of the Canucks problems thus far. For a contender, he would be great on a second pairing. He's not a top pairing guy (or atleast not a #1 on a team which he is for the Canucks) but if you bumped him down the pecking order slightly he is still a good player.

Edler consistently the only defenceman who can produce from the Canucks defence core. If the Canucks do trade him they need to commit and move Chris Tanev right after and maximize the any draft capital to rebuild that backend into a Dcore that competes in this NHL, not the one of yesteryear with guys like Gud and MDZ.

Alexander Edler is playing 25:19 a game, 12th in the NHL. This is someone who does not want to leave Vancouver. He’s made that very clear. His contract is up after the season, and Tampa was interested a year ago. Someone’s going to want him as a rental, even if he returns to British Columbia next year.
