Sometimes one guy is hot, and all the rest are completely frozen

Let's hope they others pick it up too. This probably gets some pressure off them.

Even Gretzky said that when he was trying to break Howe's records, and he had Howe there watching his games, he couldn't score for a week etc, and Howe just had to keep on watching his games.

During his hot streak he was even +6:

Kuznetsov was cold during that time.
Yeah, overall he has 20 of their 79 goals (25.3%) during this 24 game stretch. He's doubling the next closest, Oshie:

In the previous 37 games (26-6-5) he had 22 of 131 (16.8%):

Congrats to Ovechkin - a huge milestone. Here's a list of many games it's taken each player to score 700 goals:

Wayne Gretzky 886
Alex Ovechkin 1,144
Brett Hull 1,157
Phil Esposito 1,214
Marcel Dionne 1,255
Mike Gartner 1,390
Jaromir Jagr 1,452
Gordie Howe 1,493

That's not a typo for Gretzky. He really was that fast (much higher scoring era though).
That’s crazy. Although Mario had 690 goals in only 915 games, only 10 away in the end. had he been able to stay healthy he would have smashed the all time goals record I’m sure. I always forget how nuts his stats were for how few games he played. Lol

Caps are 11-12-1 in their last 24 games. Ovechkin has 20 goals in 23 games in this stretch, and the game he missed the Caps won. Kind of crazy that this specific stretch isn't correlating to wins at all.

The Kings were miserable with Kovalchuk this season, then started winning after terminating his contract. Maybe the Caps need to do the same with Ovechkin :sarcasm:.

01. Wayne Gretzky (894)
02. Gordie Howe (801)
03. Jaromir Jagr (766)
04. Brett Hull (741)
05. Marcel Dionne (731)
06. Phil Esposito (717)
07. Mike Gartner (708)
08. Alex Ovechkin (700)

Damn, so next year Ovechkin should end the year behind Jagr for 4th all time. He'll probably get past Gartner this year. Just steam rolling up the list.

I sold my tickets for this one. Personally don't give a shit about Ovi or witnessing "history" and I hate 1pm games so I gladly took the money not to have to go.

Almost a 20 year Devils season ticket holder. Don't care about Ovi.
This view is definitely the minority (which is your right) because the majority of true hockey fans recognize greatness. I mean hell, a good chunk of Flyers fans gave Marty an ovation when he got his 500th win in Philly and they despised Marty, and the Flyers team announced the accomplishment and put a nice graphic on the tron. Same thing with the Penguins and their fans when Marty got the shutout record. Ovi and the Caps versus the Devils isn’t even a big thing so I'm pretty surprised by your take on this knowing how long you’ve been a STH. But as always, to each their own.

It's a letdown. A 700th goal in a loss to the Devils. Should have saved it till the Pens game tomorrow. Would have meant more.

What I loved about Devils fans cheering wasn’t just that they took the time, on the second and third angles you can see a big chunk of Devils fans getting to their feet in the moment like it was a home goal. Only way that makes any sense is if plenty of them were actively cheering for Ovechkin during the possession, which I love and respect.

Noticed earlier that Caps owner Ted Leonsis posted a congratulatory note to Ovie but then immediately turned to pointing out how badly the Caps have been playing lately & the need to turn it around very soon. I’m thinking Reirdon’s in the hot seat now (rightly so).

Incredible accomplishment to the great 8! Likely we won't see another 700 goal member for a very long time. I'd be shocked if I saw another in my lifetime.

This is great not only for OV fans, but hockey fans in general. I'm rooting hard for the guy to break Gretzky's record. It's going to be tough, but exciting to follow this storyline as his career goes along.

Enjoy the ride folks, because one day it's going to be all over for OV and all we'll be left with is memories and recollections.

It's nuts he did something in 2020 that only 7 others have done, and many did it during different eras were scoring was higher.

He will finish as the best player of his generation when he hangs em up
