Ovechkin will beat Gretzkys empty net record, that one is definitely gone for Wayne! Caps win almost every game so there will be plenty of chances for Ovie to play the last 3 minutes and put in one or two empty netters. Given how serious the Caps are about this, I think 900 goals will be reached if Ovie decides to keep on playing for a while. At 40+ Ovie could still be a PP specialist and then add empty netters, so there is no reason he can not do it.

If you bothered to read, you would have seen the PP specialist comment was mentioned at 40+, as players at that age typically are less effective 5 on 5 due to age.

I read your salt-filled post that made no mention of the fact that he has 40 goals at age 34, and clearly implied that the Capitals put him on there to pad stats instead of ice a game in the blink of a second. You also focused on the one empty netter (that came after he tried giving his teammate the goal) and not the two other goals he scored to give them the lead, conveniently.

Don't try to spin it any other way. Your post was meant to demean Ovechkin for doing what he was supposed to. Increase the chances of his team winning the hockey game.

My post was about 99s record and 8s chances of beating them, in which Ovechkins manner of scoring goals is vital. Not every post needs to be a celebration, in case you wrongly believed so.

The only person spinning anything was you, responding to an argument about even strength goals that was never made as it was convenient for you!

The only person spinning anything was you, re-butting an argument about even strength goals that were never made.

And your post suggested most of his goals are empty netters. Why not focus on the two goals he scored with the goalie in?

Ovy’s gonna sniff 60 by the end of the season. He needs « only » 20 in the remaining 29 to reach it

It’s happening.

No. My point was that Ovechkins chances of beating 99 is very good, because as he gets older he could still remain effective, because his age should not limit his ability to snipe on the PP and net empty netters. That does not mean most of his goals are empty netters, which nobody has claimed btw. Since Ovechkin needs to put up goals at a regular pace while aging, this bodes well for him in the chase of 99.

Lol. Remember people a couple of years ago saying there was zero chance for him to beat Gretzky as there was no way he could get 50 goals at his current age.. He might get 60 this year! Would be amazing if he finds a way to beat his personal best of 65.

If he ends with 60, that would put him at 718 at the end of the year, 1 ahead of Esposito! So Ovechkin, within the same year, would have surpassed Selanne, Yzerman, Lemieux, Messier, Gartner and Esposito... that's insane.

Can't blame them for thinking that. Guy is a freak of nature.

It seems like yesterday that this man-child came into the league. I remember thinking "Wow, I've never seen a player like this before". One of my other early thoughts were that with his highly aggressive style of play. He'd sadly burn out after 10 years or so. I'm happy to say that I was 100% wrong thinking that.
