I have to agree with Lady Rhian on the Tuukka stuff. This all feels gross.

However, I disagree that her appearance does not affect her performance and ability to do her job. They way public figures choose to present themselves to the world is part of their brand. The fact that so many people commented on her appearance (myself included) tells me that her hair/makeup/wardrobe choices negatively impacted her ability to do her job as it distracted from what she was there to do.

Maybe it's a matter of preference, but I was always taught that makeup is meant to enhance your features and a well-applied "face" wouldnt look like you were wearing any. There are plenty of women in the media - sports and otherwise - that prove that (Kathryn Tappen and Jamie Erdahl come to mind, as do Dylan Dryer and Savannah Guthrie from the Today Show).

It's not just people online saying she wears too much makeup. A couple people I watch games with commented on it too, it was pretty distracting. Calling someone out based on appearances is kinda shallow, but you also need to present yourself better if you're on tv every other night.

I too am shocked the mods haven't deleted the speculation in this thread. We know Alex wanted to wear an Eagles hat on the air, and Fenway certainly can post his interactions with her. However, the stuff about Tuukka (or any other player) are just rumors and should be flushed.
It's terrible. Seeing this on here is really upsetting me. Too many people can get hurt by this- I don't care if it's true or not. It happened back in the early winter months. Tuukka never spoke to the media about what happened that he needed to take a leave of absence, just said he needed to do it. This is just so wrong on so many levels.

This is true and I think most of the comments about her appearance aren't any different from people making fun of men with hairpieces or guys trying to look younger with the way they're made up. There were times when she looked positively frightening and a caricature of whatever the hell she was going for.

Even @Fenway posted that NESN asked her to tone things down and apparently she's tone deaf to it, so in my opinion, that's fair game.

We're not talking about people making fun of weight like with Haggerty (which I'm guilty of and I should be better about it) but I think Alex brings a lot of this on herself quite frankly

I also remember as a former Mod, deleting posts with rumors/speculations about players and these kinds of situations.

Now EVERYONE can gather Tuukka had a love affair with her. Great. Tuukka himself never came out about this, did he?

So if his girlfriend or anyone from her family reads here, and let's just say that some of her family and friends might not be aware of what happened (it's personal, know what I mean? Hurtful and embarrassing!) they will now.

- if Alex Kraemer had an inappropriate relationship with a Bruin (and it is looking like she did), she crossed the line and has paid for it with her job and reputation. Why should her partner in this incident get away without being held accountable or suffering damage to his reputation??? You're concerned about his family?? That's more than you can say for him....

Are you trying to say she visited the Eiffel Tower this past season and was accompanied by two of our bruins?
I heard the rumors awhile ago (When Tuukka was out for a few days). I heard Tuukka wasn't the only player involved.

I took it as gossip . I agree that it can cause too many problems for the people involved and none of us really knows what happened.

I heard about 4 different stories as to why Tuukka was out...I guess we all are wondering what went on but it is really none of our business.

I asked my girlfriend whose a lot more policy and social justice savvy than I (degree in economics and gender studies, works with a domestic violence intake shelter near Springfield ) and also loves make up and trying different techniques about her (AK) appearance and the comments constantly made through the season because while I didn’t think Alex’s make up job is my personal preference, I thought she was average at her job and felt a lot of the school yard digs at her looks were rooted in misogynist double standards and cringe worthy

Her response was basically that she both needed better make up artists (or to stop doing it herself lol) but that it was also very telling that’s all anyone ever said of her, it was certainly the focus at the very least

That said if people truly started shitting on her looks as a response to her behavior behind the scenes, then whatever. I’m guilty of using Hagg’s weight to dig him because he’s a hack of a writer and routinely berates people here and on twitter, but if she was upset behind the scenes about the comments being made and then took it out on Fenway, that’s a different story. It’s emotion being met with emotion, and Fenway is probably the only true victim there but I also can’t blame her for being hurt about it. A ton of emphasis is put on how a woman looks compared to men, it’s scientifically proven through peer review studies and not just anecdotal either. Hell, I myself started wearing jeans to work just to see if my principal (a woman) would say anything because she gave two other teachers shit for it (both women) even though it’s technically not against contract. Not a peep. Not a word. Did she notice? Did she notice but was too afraid to say something because I’m a man? Did she notice but not care because I’m a man? I do not know, but it was telling

So the emphasis is drilled into them, and in a profession where you’re on tv, it’s going to hurt and make you feel emotional about defending yourself. But again I dont know how the specific sequence of events played out. My read on it is she’s kind of prickly and not pleasant to work with.

All I ask is that people are honest with themselves about their intentions and motivations. Don’t roll around in the dirt and pretend like all you did was go for a swim. We’re all emotional and do petty things sometimes.

Also, enough with the Tuukka stuff if there’s no proof (and then even then, let sleeping dogs lie). He might have already taken care of it, it’s his business and doesn’t need to be brought into the spotlight

While I find the speculation trashy I am more pragmatic. Did this motivate Tuuks? If so she gets an extension and Tammy Fae Baker can do her make up for all I care. Just need to tell Tuukka that if we play another game 7 in the finals that it is really game 6 or 4 or something, pre season game, no pressure, no stress.

Serious reply is I know guys that played in the A and some guys I grew up with played in the E, if you think that any pro athlete is angelic I have some bad news for you regarding Santa Claus.

except Booby Orr who is the perfect human being/deity

In fairness, there was not a lot else to comment on. She was a pretty bad interviewer who (not her fault this) lobbed stupid softball questions that got generic hockey responses. Her job brief did not really have much in the way of assignments that might generate real interest with Bruins fans. Whether that was because of her, or the job, who knows? Either way, there was not much there, so of course her looks, probably by design seeing as NESN hired her, are the focal point. It is a stupid role- acting as eye candy to attract male viewers (as if anyone is watching the Bruins because of the rinkside reporter)- but one where it is hard to imagine that the person taking job doesn't know why they are there. To then be upset because people comment about her looks, when that is what the whole job is built around, is a little silly.

So two adults involved in whatever, one gets a leave of absence for a couple days and the other gets terminated immediately?
Ohh more drama... leave of absence early November, not renewed contract end of June.

Enough time for a baby to be born. Not immediately.
