Depends how you weigh workload and innings. Sale only went 158 inning this year. He pitched 200+ innings the last 3 years.

Klubot and JV both pitched 215+ innings but their numbers were slightly worse than Sales.

Snell went 180 innings but had a sub 2 ERA...I think he wins it.

You must really value bb/k ratio because I don't see how anyone could take Verlander easily over Snell.

Verlander has a lower xFIP than Snell while Snell blows him away in ERA+. I don't like the fact that Snell threw 34 innings less than Verlander. That's about 5 starts.

if they were close in stats, I'd agree with you. but Snell has a healthy lead.

1.89 vs 2.52 in ERA
219 vs 159 in ERA+
7.5 vs 6.2 in WAR

He doesn't have a lead in xFIP which is a better indicator than ERA and also in fWAR.

Results don't always dictate how dominant a pitcher was, but they matter to me when determining a cy young when other peripherals are similar. Verlander was more dominant but Snell gave up less.
