NHL lockout looks to be over.

I know the team (Norfolk) i follow will lose 5-6 players for whatever type of camp the NHL affiliate will have. Think maybe 2-3 will stay with the NHL club. Hope we have enough players stashed in the ECHL to cover the open roster spots.

How will the start of the NHL season affect your AHL team?

Do players remain with AHL clubs until they are officially called up? OKC appears to have a game today for example, are Hall and Eberle still going to play or do they immediately make arrangements to head to Edmonton?

Each NHL club is different, some will pull players from games to reduce the risk of them getting hurt and some will keep their player in the line up. Also depends on when the NHL starts camp/pre-season training.

OK, thanks.

I just read on the Oilers board that Eberle said he and Hall won't be playing tonight, so I guess in the Oilers case they are pulling them. I haven't heard if the Sens are changing their roster immediately or waiting.

quick (and possibly crazy/stupid) question:

With the NHL teams calling up more players for training camp than will make the final roster, is there any chance that an insufficient number of players may make the AHL (or at least two or three teams) shut down for a week for the NHL training camp?

AHL won't cancel/postpone games. Players will be recalled from ECHL teams. Some teams may run a short bench for a week or two. If they really have to AHL GM's will sign unsigned/lower league players to PTO's to fill the roster.

Couple years ago Norfolk GM signed a few IHL players to PTO's to fill roster spots during injury call ups. When players returned from the NHL, the rental players were released from their contracts.

Grand Rapids only has one player headed to camp at this point, who was pulled from the team right away when the lockout ended. For now it doesn't look like anyone else will make the opening night NHL roster, so the Griffins will be in good form going forward and they're not sitting anyone else this weekend. If they'd end up losing another two or three guys to camp, they have good ECHL and bench players ready.

Milwaukee is losing three players to Nashville. They just received their third call-up from Cincinnati. One player came back from being injured for 20 games, so the Admirals now have 7 healthy D-men (even if 2 are relatively inexperienced). They have one forward from Nashville who is injured. He will probably re-hab in Milwaukee. When and if he gets called up to Nashville, we will get the other forward back.
