AHL’s 83rd season begins tonight | TheAHL.com | The American Hockey League

All games will feature two referees.

The only change to the AHL’s on-ice playing rules for 2018-19 was adopted by the Board of Governors in September. Per Rule 76.2, a team being awarded a power play will now have the choice of which offensive-zone location the ensuing faceoff will take place at, and will also have the privilege of placing its lineup on the ice last.

One rule change.

Drop the puck!

There was a few rules changes this off season. The AHL added an exemption request (in writing) for goaltenders over 6'6" to increase the paddle length on their stick, and they also changed some of the other goaltender equipment rules.

Referees can now award goals if a player would have gained clear possession of the puck with no defender between him and the open net before being fouled, and now game misconducts in preseason and playoff games count toward the number you can get before being suspended (or fined).
