Do you think NHL owners are implementing these ads to benefit season ticket holders, or is it possible they can raise prices or keep them steady while also adding even MORE revenue in the process?

Advertisements and season ticket prices are not directly related. You cannot reasonably assume such.

You seem to be under the impression that they’re not going to charge maximum ticket prices.

They will do that AND gradually bring in more ad spaces.

Anything else, and you’re not thinking like an owner.

Let's put it this way, I preferred it without the ads in the corners.

Conversely, when I look at old photos or footage the boards seem bare to me without ads... so I've somehow grown to prefer the boards with ads (except the hideous led/digital ones, and especially the ones with burnt-out lightbulbs).

Then you are naive. Every dollar of revenue generated by advertising affects the net profits. The NHL (and the NHLPA indirectly) will not give up the revenues to reduce their profits/salaries... so if they’re not gaining those revenues from advertising (and TV revenues, again indirectly via advertising) then where else are the revenues coming from?

I guess they could reduce their expenses... like charitable donations. So, I guess they could remove those ads and stop donating to charities. If you think it’s coming out of the owners and players pockets you are going to be disappointed.

Sounds like you're the one that's naive to me. The only thing that impact's ticket price is how much fans are willing to pay for them. The ads certainly add to the bottom line, they just dont' impact the revenue stream from tickets.

How many people complaining about ads are season ticket holders? If you are, then I have a question for you... would you rather pay more for your tickets?

If you never pay to go to games... your opposing opinion, regarding advertising, doesn’t mean ****.

Ticket sales is a drop in the bucket compared to TV revenue. Same with revenue from these dumb ads on the boards. Ticket prices/sales have almost no impact on a team's bottom line. These ads aren't going to move the needle enough to keep ticket costs down...

I’m not suggesting ‘these ‘ specific ads are going to bring the cost of tickets down 10% but it could be a buck or two.

You don’t think the same “traditionalists” hated the board advertising when it was first brought in?... and the ice advertising and the penalty box advertising and the... well you get where I’m coming from.

Without all of this advertising revenues your tickets are going up 10-15%. That is a total guess but the point is it would have an impact.

There is more advertising coming... get used to it.

I'm a Leaf fan. In no way are these additional four ads helping keep ticket prices at bay as much as it is lining the pockets of the team's owners even further.

This is simply extra revenue for the owners. I actually think it'd be naive to believe that this additional revenue is being passed on to the fans as savings.

I personally don't have a problem with the advertising. It just doesn't have any impact on ticket prices. Toronto charges $200 because people will pay it. Arizona only charges $20 because that's all people will pay. How much additional advertising they can squeeze in isn't relevant to that cost.

The NHL has no respect for the aesthetic of their presentation. The NHL already has a problem that it's the most difficult sport for new fans to track the play, they should be trying to keep the surfaces as clean as possible to help diminish this problem. By itself the new ads might be relatively benign but they are in addition to big colourful ads at centre ice, the new glowing neon ads on the boards and replacing the first few rows of seats at many arenas. The point of ads of course, is to attract eyeballs, and these ones plastered all over the ice and boards are all there to do it during play, thus more difficulty for fans to track the puck. If the NHL recognizes how self defeating this is, they don't care, they would rather put some cashola into their grubby pockets.

I like the very specific local ones that are impossible to read on the broadcast. Really better served by big, well-known logos...LA's got Adidas, AXS, LIQUIMOLY, and Spectrum back there which are pretty recognizable, but some teams just have blue squiggles.
