That screams to me of a woman scorned.

And, for the record, Russell is far from innocent here and has his own baggage with multiple kids. There is quite likely some truth here in between the lines. I just have the feeling of ulterior motives as well.

Russell has been expendable long before this resurfaced. Try and move him to an A.L. team or just cut his ass.
